    What is that?

    Yes, it a real question.
    Water goes in the pot, coffee grounds in the strainer, tube in the pot and through the strainer. Set over a fire. Water boils and goes through the tube into the strainer and returns to the pot. You leave it on the fire until the water has turned to coffee.

    This is how my dad made coffee until well into the 1970's

    A peculator was how people made coffee until Mr. Coffee came around. There are electric peculators too. Ones like the one in the picture can still be found in camping cooking kits.
