It seems most people agree with you. "Phablets" (phones big enough to double as tablets) were really loved by some people but they fell out of fashion quickly several years ago. Too few people liked them for a stable niche market to persist.

Well, I had two jobs like that.

The federal government paid me to look at obscene images and videos online in an effort to track down the originators. I can't un-see that shit and occasionally I still have nightmares.

The magazine that hired me to watch and review ~30 pornographic movies per month (and spend time at industry events, on publicity junkets, photographing the talent, writing business process articles, etc.) actually made an announcement on rec.arts.movies.erotica on Usenet. The editor announced that he was tired of freelancers missing deadlines and he was firing their entire roster. He invited writers to send in 3 reviews on spec and promised that two or three writers of the best submissions would be hired. He used all three of my reviews in the next issue, turning one into a page feature. I worked for them, part time, for years.

And I'll tell you the same thing I told a cabbie in Vegas who wanted to know how to get such a job. Don't do it.

If you are entertained by the movies you'll find that actually knowing all the participants, going out with them, going to shoots, going to orgies, etc., takes the bloom off the rose. There were gorgeous women who I came to understand were absolute bitches and I could never see them the same way again. There was a much higher percentage of the male talent who turned out to be awful human beings; I spent enough time with Ron Jeremy to never want to live in his world ever again. I turned a source of amusement into a job that was an awful grind.

Eventually, I got burned out and just walked away. I let an up-and-coming producer/director/actor have my pen name and that was the last thing I did in the industry. Even that didn't work out. The Ben English who was a porn actor was eventually charged with sexual assault and now he's persona non grata in the industry.

Those years of industry experience provided me with lots of stories but, all in all, I wish I had never done it.
