Any Government program where people receive any form of assistance in the form of my tax dollars should be tested! Imagine testing college students receive pell grants... that's just one example..

I think it's a good idea, but implementation is gonna suck. If they exclude them from benefits, some Lib is gonna require treatment. Guess who pays for that? Not the druggie, they have no money as evidenced by them looking for a handout. Could get expensive...

People are already bitching about it saying that its "unconstitutional" I'm raising the bullshit flag on that where in the constitution does it say that you have a right to other peoples tax dollars. This should be mandatory period nationwide

Thats probably a pretty low yield population, and it is of people that are making something of themselves.

I wonder what drugs they are screening for? If they care about some drugs more than others? Or if having a perscription matters?

And San Antone brings up a point. Do you exclude that person from all benefits? Or just some? Do you try and treat them? Would people be angry if say, smoking tobabacco was an exlusion to benefits? It makes sense in light of the fact that it is an expensive addiction, but its "legal" just really unwise for people to smoke.

I'm going to disagree with everyone here on one point. Not only should this NOT be nationwide, but the whole "Welfare" thing should be pushed down to each state to decide as well. Federal welfare shouldn't exist in the first place, but I guess this a better "policing" of this socialist program?

This is kinda like leaving the bar at last call with the 2nd ugliest girl in the place.

Woo-freakin-hoo, they're putting on some lube so our collective asses hurt a little less!

They need to expand it to include people that are receiving welfare already. I am sure this is just a first step, but it is a great one.

If you can't pass a drug test, you can't get a job. If you are on welfare because you are out of work, you should have to pass a drug test because you are saying that you can't get a job.

I agree, it is about damn time.

Florida is typically a very conservative state with no income tax, good gun laws and pro business atmosphere.
I always think that due to Florida and Texas becoming states the same year, that they share alot of common thinking.

I think that one of the reasons that Florida is a conservative state is due to the large elderly population in the state. Definitely not conservative around the Miami area.

Thing that seems fairly odd to me is that ACLU apparently has a case against Florida for requiring state employees to take drug tests. They are now saying they are looking into filing a case against the state for the drug testing for welfare because the state is sterotyping people on welfare as drug users. Does that mean the ACLU thinks that the state is stereotyping all state government employees as druggies?

Also think it is funny the person is required to pay for the test. If they pass, then it comes out of their first check. Never said how they pay it if they don't. If they have no money and are applying for welfare, how will that work? Bill them so they can pay from their drug money?
