The last time I fished Lake McQueeny was July 4th, 1992.
Never again. At that time, there was no public access to the lake, so we had to pay a land-owner for access ($5.00 per head).
Maybe things have changed (rent a float plane & land on the lake to fish?).
Better to try Canyon Lake. Good fishing there when the water is calm, sky is cloudy, temps below 95, the winds are still, and when the barometer is above 29 inches of mercury.
Lots of catfish to be caught on jugs & trotlines at night. Be sure to check your fish & game booklet before putting out those jugs & trotlines, though!
Lake Dunlap is actually a pretty good fishing hole. We have always put in under IH35 and parked free. If you hit the water early, the fishing isn't too bad and the jet skis are still asleep. Around noon that all changes.
Canyon is good if you know where to go.
Calevaras has a lot of potential and isn't all that far south.
