This thread made me waste at least 2 hours looking for the cheapest Uzi I could find. That's what I learned on over 40 years ago, and what I'll eventually get.
Although, I could get a Thompson like in the picture...

    Out here by the lake!
That Thompson is SWEET! But, between J. Curtis Earl 'upgrading' countless guns and good gunsmiths 'back in the day' doing repairs and refinishing, there's no way to tell which are original and which aren't.
RDIAS is definitely the way to go for an M16.

What blows my mind is the price of a lighting link. The last one I seen come on the market the asking price was a WTF moment for me.

I'm actually going to try collecting the cheap sub gun knockoff that were around in the '60s &'70s. I've seen a few that were airsoft chassis with 10/22 guts hogged into them. That's as close as this peasant is going to get. PAX

Oh its original alright and its fairly easy to tell the difference.
The first generation unmarked Cutts compensator on it was one of the first 1921's modified to 1921AC.
You can tell from the cold blue where they machined the muzzle.
They eventually figured it out with the later compensators.

My full size MP5 gets to go outside and play most often now. Much easier to find a range that allows subguns than assault rifles or belt feds.
As much fun as MP5s are I actually prefer the thumpity thump of a heavy bolt whacking back and forth like on an Uzi or Sten.
Missed my shot at C+R Stens back when they were "cheap" :(

Not a machine gun as the Thompson had a shorter barrel length. It's a semi auto copy of the Thompson
There were the string of Commemorative West Hurley Thompsons that came out.
As cool as they may look they actually bring the lowest money for transferable Thompsons. Even the plain Jane Hurleys M1 bring more.

I never understood why they bring so low, I'd shoot the snot out of a commemorative M1 or even a '28 like that!

I imagine that the plain Jane West Hurley guns have for the most part been in to a competent Thomson smith & had the reliability problems fixed, were the commemoratives for the most part have not.
