We had heard so much re train travel in Europe, and our prior experiences on trains in Spain, Belgium, & France had been great; by just buying the tickets we needed.

This trip, all in France, we decided to buy the EuRail ‘’One-Country Pass’’. It is a giant nightmare. Nothing worked, their customer service is nonexistent, and none of the multilingual agents speak American. My French is passable, but I can’t understand their excited replies.

The system is full of gotchas, blind alleys, & frustrations.

My advice is to avoid EuRail Pass at all costs.

    You have been warned !

Our experience in C.H. was much nicer.

There is a very large yacht which makes regular circuits on Lac Leman from Geneve twice daily. It is powered by 2 giant steam engines driving screw props. There is a deck port on the main level through which one can watch those big engines run. They are the most beautiful large pieces of mechanical equipment I’ve ever seen.

Most urban Swiss speak fluent English. As the tiny nation has 4 official languages, they tell that they had to learn English so as to be able to talk to one-another.

We didn’t use the Swiss rails, but their busses are wonderful.
