    Gunz are icky.
    Curious what your experience was?

    Too many dumbshits out there?
    Had the place to yourself?
TP&W staff okay to deal with?
    Were there any birds?

    Out here by the lake!
30 years ago The Village Idiot & I tried Type II land for whitetails at the Richland-Chambers Reservoir. It would be a great place if your into recycling beer cans & booze bottles. The trick to any public lands are to have an ATV or UTV to get away from the idiots who are cluster phucingly close to were they park.

With the way things have changed for the worse these days I'd be very paranoid about leaving my vehicle parked. After all if they know your out hunting they figure you most likely have a truck gun stashed.

True but all are well worth the effort for a weekend or so. With the exception of Argentina. I've never been but know a few who have. Way too pricey for me just to shoot little birds. It's like a trip to Africa.

Now you know why I'm asking about free, er...mostly free, hunting spots.

Over the last few days I've been checking out several public dove hunting fields.
Several of them look promising because of ground conditions and vegetation.
Haven't seen many dove unfortunately. These places are in the south zone so the doves haven't arrived yet I think.
For sure I won't be out there on opening weekend but a little later in the season I think they might produce.

Have you folks been seeing any dove in your area?

I went to one of the TP&W dove areas a few years ago on opening morning and it was nuts! We were in the Katy area on a corn field (it might have been some kind of maize). They had cut down the corn around the outer edge of the field and there was a shooter about every 20 yards, literally. Everyone tried to be safe, but with that many people that close together, it's impossible. We left within 30 minutes after daylight. I'm told that after opening weekend, it gets much better, but I have no personal experience.

I forgot, there were quite a few birds, and the game warden came by, very courteously asked to check the capacity of my shotgun, thanked me and went on about her business.
