This is a direct quote from another forum:

I would accept the statement as pure B.S. except for articles like this:
Ruger SR-556 Gas Piston/Op-Rod AR-15 Carbine/Rifle: Ruger Enters the Piston-Driven AR Fray
So what do everyday shooters say?
