Champion portable generator - got any personal knowledge of them?

I'm in the market for a 3500-5000 watt gas generator.
I found a Champion pretty durn cheap and was hoping ya'll could say yes it's the best one ever made or don't touch it.
Specifically this one is a 3500 watt model C40012.
Checking their site it looks like Champion make their own engines. Is that true?

Is it the one at Tractor Supply for $299? I own 2 of those. 3500/4000 watt. No issues so far. (2 years)

Judging by model # shown @ TS site, no. But mfg. change model numbers regularly.
The one I'm looking at is used, purchased around Ike but never needed. They claim it's LNIB.
Do you know who makes the engine on yours?
