I will be getting my CHL soon and am thinking about carrying my 1911. I was wondering if and how many spare mags you guys that carry 1911 keep with you?

Traditionally you would carry two spares.

I think it's a carry over from carrying 2 speedloaders or dump pouches but I don't know when that started.

For a single stack I think 2 is plenty; most malfunctions can be traced back to or fixed expediently by a magazine change so always carry at least one spare.

It's a single stack 1911. You should carry 23 7 round magazines so you can reload like a mofo like on Way of the Gun. ;)

I use ParaOrdnance products . . . P10 in the Summer and P13 when it's colder and I wear more clothing. I carry one P13 mag loose in an extra pocket that will fit either.
