    Poll #3 (following choices 1A and 2D)...

[If you are stumbling across this post for the first time, please note this is the third of a series detailing the poor choices of a real Texas gun owner. I had opportunity to speak with him at length and hear his declaration as to what transpired that night. He will ultimately be arrested; you may wish to follow these threads if only to see what decision ultimately lead to his incarceration.

At this point there have been two major decision points in the progression of events, and countless minor ones. He made unsound decisions which brings us to where things are for this guy right now in the chronology. This means that statements such as, “It would never have gotten to this point so I reject all options,” are meaningless. Of course you wouldn’t. Not one person of TGT would be in this exact circumstance since none choose the action our subject did in the very first poll. But, this is about following his actions to the end, learning from his mistakes, and hearing some helpful commentary.

You are welcome to post your observation on the silliness of his actions at decision points 1 and 2 in those threads, but not this one, please. We've moved forward.

I think these threads have been beneficial. One person shared a smart observation regarding leaving exterior lights on all night. You are welcome to share other options not in the poll, and why you think it best based on predictions of human predatory behavior and history of law enforcement actions, even the law in Texas. Elsewhere someone shared they might evacuate their family out the front of the house while calling 911. Just recognize that there are an infinite set of nuanced different choices but I am not creating an infinite number of poll options. You’ll get 4 choices drawing from a wise course, a viable one, one humorous/silly, a very bad choice, and the course our actor choose.

Have fun sharing your choice, opine on what you think the person did.

We continue following the man’s night with the following:]

It is between 12:00 midnight and 1:00 AM on a weekday morning. You live in a residential neighborhood in a suburb of a major Texas city. Your residence is a mobile home. Your neighbor to the south is mobile home some 40 yards away. Across the street to the west is a wall enclosing a neighborhood. The lot to the north is empty and your lot is nearly 60 yards deep to the east. A car intentionally pulled into your backyard via a neighbor's driveway. The vehicle headlights are shining on the back-porch to your home. You are not expecting anyone and parking in the backyard has never been allowed. You own a 9mm handgun and have working phone service via both you and your wife's smart devices. There are two young minor children who live in your home with you.

For some inexplicable reason, you chose to go outside unarmed (see thread 1), and walk off the porch to ground. You observe the driver and passenger exit. They immediately challenged YOU with, "Why you wanna go starting problems?" And, "Is [your spouse's name], OK?" The implication is that you may have harmed her. Though you do not know these two, they used your wife's correct name. You respond that she is ok, and your wife, who stepped onto the patio, declares she is ok.

They are dressed "ganster" with tattoos. They are both larger than you in both height and weight. For some other inexplicable reason you allowed these two to get within touch distance. Maybe it is the same bravado which lead you to walk outside unarmed I the first place, but as they start declaring themselves gang members with statements like, "Do you know who are? We're Tango Blast! We’re Blastin'!" The driver shoves you and the passenger attempts a sucker punch. It does not connect well so you are unharmed. Then the passenger displays a knife.

At this you disengage and successfully flee inside your home with your wife. You arm yourself and exit your home again. No one calls 911. (see thread 2)

As you emerge with the two having closed on the porch they see your gun and one exclaims, “$#!+, he’s got a gun!” The two flee to their vehicle, and begin backing it out of your backyard.

    What do you do?

    ETA:

    A) Follow the car to the property line, walking right in front of it.

    B) Remain on the porch, call 911, observe to ensure their departure.

    C) “Wait! Where you goin’, Tango Biatches? Come on back and get some!”

    D) No-backing spikes blow the tires. Riddle the car – you thought they was shootin’

Should I actually leave the house again for some reason (apparently I'm a moron to have gotten to this point, lol) I would choose B (assuming I've suddenly stopped being a moron)

    This.

And out of curiosity, did they actually say "tango blast" or did you change the name to protect the innocent?

They're retreating without having hurt anybody or stealing anything, so there is no legal grounds to shoot.

Its a hispanic street gang here in Texas, its a huge problem in Houston. Common tats are of the 5 pointed star with area code inside of it, the Houston Astros star, Houston Texans logo or the Rockets 'R', the Houston skyline, and the words Tango Blast. I lived in a neighborhood for a while outside of Houston that had a late of their members in it including two "shotcallers".

Thought the Astros tat was Hou-Stones?

Eta: never mind they are the same thing.

So, that really poses another problem with this situation. When they announced they were Tango Blast, that has to become a factor in anyone's decision (for those who knew what that was).

When you think a gang member is going to attack, you automatically assume they're going to kill. Naturally, you'd want to immediately go on offense with as much force as possible, but if you do run inside and come back out and kill them...what then? Gang retaliation?

The results are essentially 100% with B. It is presumed that those choosing C and D are just being silly and would have chosen B.

As with the first poll, no body choose the option our actor did.

That's right. He declared he A) followed the vehicle as it was retreating to the property line, right in front of it. While I do not see a legal issue with following the vehicle and escorting uninvited guests to the property, it was just manifestly stupid.

The final poll is right coming up.

Is that what happened or is that what the story is he told?

Also how do you follow a vehicle by walking in front of it. I am confused.
