It is running. I am using the trigger style tapper, and it does flow when i pull the trigger. Just not when it is hooked up to the service port.

Did anybody put sealant in this system at some point?

Not to my knowledge. I don't think the system was touched til today.

I would be looking at the fitting from the hose and be sure it had a depressing pin in the center of it.
Even if you have some air in the system it should still take some freon with the compressor running.
I do think you will be further ahead having someone with gauges and knowledge to help you out though.
