well i am planning a little camping trip.
i was thinking of bringing along my .22 for general purpose utility gun. kindof a just in case thing.
my options are my .22 rifle or my 9mm pistol. i thought 'rifle' at first mainly becasue i dont have my chl but now im thinking the pistol is smaller and lighter, but im not sure of lawfulness of having it. hell im not quite sure its 'ok' to even have the rifle. im not planniong on actually shooting atg all. liek i said it jsut seems traditional to have a 'camp gun'
what do you guys think / know about this
    and
which one would you bring and why?

    DFW area.....Wylie.
I would take the pistol because it is smaller, lighter, and easier to conceal and carry. If it's only for a 'just in case' situation, then you should not need the longer range of the rifle.

The legality of carrying any weapon will depend on where you are going. You would need to check the laws for the area. Presuming you can conceal carry and are doing so in case of some attach, the 9mm would be much better. If you are thinking you might encounter killer chipmunks or some such, a .22 piston would be good.
