am trying to think of something useful to do with all the .22 brass that endsup piling on the sandbags around my rem 597.

got ta thinkin, why not melt them down into bullets? nice and hard, wouldn't expand very good. but it'd be interesting and cheap...

    eh?
is this a stupid idea? seems like ive heard somethigna bout brass ammo before, but was it negative or positve?

A solid brass bullet might be rough on the barrel.
You might want to do some research on the effects of running all brass as apposed to all copper.

The melting point of brass is a little over 1650 degrees fahrenheit. to get it to flow properly to fill out a mold would require more than 1700 degrees. That would require some pretty specialized equipment. Making solid brass bullets would probably get you crossways with BATF.

The Corbin equipment is pretty cool, just pricey. Collect the brass up in a bucket and sell it for scrap. Over $1/lb right now.
