I've got a 358 Norma Mag barrel for my Encore and I'm looking to get some glass for it.

    Coca-cola budget (teacher salary)

I was thinking something in the 2x7 power range would be a good choice, since this will be used for the big pigs down where I hunt.

Don't see it as a deer gun (especially in Texas) unless I start loading up 180 grains....and even then....too much. But for pigs: go big or go home ;)

I was leaning towards Nikon...I've seen lots of good glass from them.

    Suggestions?

I looked through a Nikon P223 at Cabelas last weekend and was very impressed with the clarity.

Looks like they have a ProStaff 2-7x32 for about 150 at optics planet and a Monarch 1-4x20 for about 100 more

For a great scope and a low price look toward fixed power. 6x may be a little much. 4x may be the ticket.

I like Leupold personally but have been impressed by Vortex also. Great warranties on both.

I'm a Leupold snob so anything you choose from their line within reason would be a good choice. How far to you plan on taking shots and how much light do you want? Go look through a 3x9x40 Vari-X2 and on up. I hunted on some beautiful property in Georgia for 15 years and started with this scope but moved up to a 50mm to get more light. It was so dark on this property that I was missing some good shots at dusk and dawn where the 50 grabs much more light.

    I'd like good light transmission.
Longest shot well likely be no more than 250 yds, but I know this round has lots of horsepower out to 5 or 600.

The scope I went with is a 6.5x20x50 Vari-X3. Anything over 16 is useless. It picks up so much light that I keep my eye to it to continue to see around the range. See if you can find something used at a lower price?

    I own a nikon prostaff 4-12 40mm.
Good scope for the cash. Good glass and good eye relief. If you ask my dad tho - he would say the next scope he bought or wants me to buy would be an infrared. Pigs just got to the ranch last year and we only see them at night.
Theyre getting too smart to spotlight and hide when they hear the jeep.

One of those high dollar digital NV rigs would be sweet....but not for this cannon. That would go on my 300 blackout bolt gun ;)
