If we're listing good burger joints (and I don't eat many burgers anymore) Grumps in Burleson is pretty good. The original Kincaids in Ft Worth was good. Haven't been impressed with the stores once they branched out. There used to be a place called Pop's in Alvarado that served burgers and fries in a brown paper bag. By the time you got a mile away from the store, the grease stains had bled through the burger wrapper and were showing through the paper bag.

There's a place called Pop's in Waxahachie, but I haven't gotten around to trying it yet.

Here’s a partial list, seems there was more than a few in the state. Looks like 5 in the SAT area.

The last Sambo’s appears to still be in business, albeit thinking about a name change.

Wow, I cant believe they still had one. We even had disney and gold books as kids about sambo. Briar rabbit and tar babies.

Out of all the places not to be burned in a riot. Irony.

Is the Butcher Shop still open in Longview?

I used to really like the burgers at the lunch counter in Schott's convenience store on Hwy 16 between Helotes & Pipe Creek. They closed. I think the moved somewhere in Lake Hills.

The one in Windcrest would have been the one I went to in the SA area. I recall traveling by car with my grandparents and stopping at Sambos and Howard Johnsons.

Honestly, I think the best burgers come from the many smaller places, where they make their own patties and cook them to order. Many of these are going to be close to home and will never get national attention for the most part.

It Wasn't meant as a racist thing. It was a family restaurant themed around 2 children's books. Books only considered racist when it became a tool for marxists, both white and black.

You also would have been called a real fascist if you even considered banning books for a theme you decided 75 years later isnt as pure as you think it should be.

    Oh how things changed.

    Detour.

ETA I wonder if the books are worth more banned? I still got them in some 50 year old kids books, you never throw books away lest you be a real fascist.

Sad, just a few generations removed from real fascists the holocaust and even surviving jews and their direct descendants become servile socialist cucks.

Don’t laugh but the Dairy Palace in Canton on Hwy 19 just south of I-20 has a pretty darned good burger. Or at least they used to. I haven’t been there in a couple of years.

The is a JLB Eatery going a place that just closed . JLB= Joy Love Burger anyone had these?
The best thing I had there was there Pork Chop / pork chop sandwich the burgers were pretty good.
I eat my burgers -Meat cheese and the Bun maybe a bit of BBQ sauce. Alot of these burger places get rated high for the fancy toppings topping they put on them.

Have you tried the 4 Points Market/gas Station in Bandera, they have the best burger in our area. Bobs is good, but I like the 4 Points burger better.

Have you tried Jimmy Burgers yet? I actually believe that was the sign we saw, not Bob's Burger Barn which is closer to Medina Lake and if I am not mistaken, used to be a Jeep shop.

Too many places seem to think fancy toppings make a great burger. IMO, a great burger starts with the meat first and the way it's cooked, and great bun to put it on. Everything else is just secondary.

Many times at home, I'll just eat a cheeseburger with a little mustard on the bun.

    Helotes!
There was at least one in San Antonio

There were three at one time, to be exact...

    1546 N. Babcock Road
    1106 Vance Jackson
    6503 Military Drive W.

I don't think any of the buildings are still around...

The chain filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in November 1981. All locations except for the first in Santa Barbara either closed outright, or were renamed after being purchased, effectively ending the chain's existence.

The Santa Barbara restaurant continued business under the Sambo's name until 2020. The George Floyd protests forced the owner of the restaurant to change the name of the establishment. :(:(:(

They just moved down the road a bit and consolidated their three businesses...

Meat grinded the day of, cooked to perfection, topped with a slice of heaven.

    No mustard applied.

We live right around "the corner" from Jimmy's and have tried them. They do make a good burger and their fries are tasty. They don' t have the selection beyond the basics that Bob's has and their atmosphere is much more basic.
But they do good work. I don't think you'd be disappointed in the food.
