Mine is 16 and has pistol gas. It gives you a wider choice of powders when reloading subs.

Do people actually put a pistol gas system on a 16" barrel?

With the 300 bo a pistol gas system is more desirable. Cycles better with subsonic loads better both suppressed and unsuppressed. It also opens up more powder options for the reloader.
