What a great group of kick-ass warriors! Everyone was totally motivated to work hard and they absolutely OWNED the important basics of fighting with a rifle. No wasted time with unzeroed rifles, everyone was ready to fight!! This allowed us to spend all of our entirely too limited time on working advanced drills and exploring different methodologies as they apply to various weapon systems.
As usual we had AR and AK platforms, but the "hard core" award goes to Jakob who used his battlefield pickup SKS for the entire class!! He earned this weapon in Viet Nam and carried it when his M16 failed. His intimate knowledge of how to run a SKS allowed him make that rifle sing! But, and he is the first to admit this fact: STRIPPER CLIP FED RIFLES ARE OBSOLETE! The detachable magazine is the standard for a good reason.
This was illustrated very well when working the single hand drills, multiple targets, and proactive reloads.
The pictures give a taste of the drills that were worked. Spetznaz prone, right and left hand drills, shooting on the run from both shoulders, transitions, and proactive reloads all got a workout. We also improvised solutions to potential issues that were discovered in the lab of hard training. Case in point, how do you reload stripper clips if one hand is disabled?
