I found this magazine in our local grocery store:
Make Sure You Survive! | American Handgunner
(Scroll down to see the magazine cover)

While I realize there are all kinds of content on the internet regarding survival / prepping, there were some interesting articles in the magazine on topics I had never heard of i.e. SODIS water purification SODIS: SODIS METHOD

In this issue the front half covers survival / prepping topics, the back half is essentially a gun catalog covering a wide variety of manufacturers and types i.e. pistols, rifles, shotguns, black powder.....

Just thought I'd share what I ran across.

If you're very careful you can boil water in one of those PET bottles. I'm sure heating it will cause some bad chemicals to be released, but you'll probably be fine doing it only once or twice in a survival situation. I'd choose that over hoping UV will kill the bad stuff. I'd reserve sunlight as "plan D"

I heard of this method not too long ago either in a magazine or on one of those survival shows. I think there's a limitation on the quality of water that can be used, ie sewage water vs rain/spring water.

There's a lot of truth to using UV to kill viruses and bacteria, which is one of the reasons why spring cleaning used to be so important when rugs, draperies, etc., were hung outside in the sun all day to freshen them. Anyway, like some of the others mentioned here, why use that method when there are so many others that are faster and more effective to use. I'd only use that as a last ditch method.
