How can a 5 ton be a "duece and a half"?

Was never in the military and never into trucks, so maybe I am missing something. Do they refer to all trucks over a certain GVW as a duece and a half?

    It's a M939, a 5-ton, 6x6 truck design (right). The Deuce and a Half is a M35 (left)...

Jeremy Alcede used to have a truck like that he kept parked in front of his house, it actually made the house look small.

A lot of the 5 tons are being bobbed, so they still have the same chassis but only a single rear axle for neighborhood restrictions. I think it helps with license issues as well, but not sure.

    Might help with parking too.

Not sure about the licensing either as they still have air brakes. When you modify them, like bobbing, it technically eliminates you from registering them as ex military (antique). Not that the licensing department knows any different though.

Mine is registered as ex military and tags run $60 for 5 years and no inspection. It does limit uses though.

Would be better with a bus mounted to the back (sans cab)

If I had the cash I'd be all over it.

Imagine picking the kids up from school. What fun.
