Im no socialist saying your monster truck should be outlawed. Im just trying to understand the thought process of most people who dont really use them to buy such a machine.

How do you know they don't use them? Because they have fancy wheels and/or don't have a single scratch? You do realize we can need and use 4WD without fucking up the truck, right?

In Texas, a 4x4 opens up many options when it comes to parking. That alone is worth having a 4x4 truck/SUV. When everyone else is circling the lot trying to find a spot, you can park your 4x4 in the wet grass lot and not worry about getting stuck. And that is just the tip of the iceberg.

If you don't like trucks or 4x4s, that's fine. Just keep your ideas to yourself. But since you're from the midwest and relocated to Austin, that's probably not going to happen.

Texas is doomed to be a blue state if it keeps attracting people like this...

There are dozens if not hundreds of people that are thankful that I had a 4x4 to pull their pathetic 2wd out of the ditch, sand, mud, wet grass, etc. over the years. Earlier this week I pulled a 2wd Dodge out of a WET GRASS side lot, who was trying to retrieve one of their electronic signs on a trailer. I tried first with my 4x4 Nissan on mud tires, but even still the ground was too soft. I went back home and got the F550 4x4 flatbed and about 100ft of chain, to do a dead pull from the pavement. It was more work than I expected, but worth the effort to help some schmuck save the $500+ "off road recovery" a tow truck would've surely charged.

What I always say in Texas: If you get stuck, don't pay the wrecker to get you out. Wait a couple more minutes and some good ol' boy will come around and gladly pull you out for free.

I'm in the same boat, at 6'7" I tried out a 99 Civic 2D coupe and i loved the 32MPG but hated that my hair touched the headliner.I had it 3 weeks and sold it.

For us bigger guys were kinda stuck with somthing bigger then your average every day economy cars.

He must be from a city in the Midwest. Most of the small-town/country people I grew up with loved their 4x4s.

I had to use 4wd to back a trailer into the garage once. You truly never know when it'll come in handy.


Nevermind trying to pull a boat out when the lake is low and the ramp is wet. Spin city!!! I've pulled out more than a few people at the boat ramp as well. I'm sure they also wanted to question me on why I have a 4x4.

Earlier this evening I pulled out a new Tacoma from a little bitty ditch. She had fishtailed while turning out of a parking lot, and ended up in the ditch. Hell, it wasn't really even a ditch. Just a grass shoulder. If she had 4WD she would've driven right out with just a little bit of wheelspin.

Good thing she didn't have a 4x4! People might judge her!

A little late but I have an opinion. I drive a VW currently that I have taken off road at a deer lease and I did not like it. I once took my Dad's lifted Dodge however, and it was much more enjoyable.
Some people do it for looks but if I had the money I'd do it too. Texas has a culture that has included trucks much longer than Mercedes or Ferrari.
If I was going to throw 60 grand at a vehicle I'd much rather have a King Ranch F-250 with all the bells and whistles, plus a lift and sweet bumpers, wheels and tires than pretty much anything else. It's luxurious and practical for haulin' stuff around.

60 grand wont even get you a stock king ranch these days :(

Before my current truck I had an 06 dmax, and was looking to get rid of my 07 half ton that I drive now to get back into a diesel but prices are just insane these days for a loaded diesel. Even on the used market an 07 crew cab 4wd loaded with 150K is going for 30k.

The gov has killed diesels. I know we love them but the new ones are sick feeling due to all the emissions crap.

I would take my old '99 7.3 over any new diesel on the road. Wish I hadn't sold it:(

Yep. Can't get a King Ranch F250 for $60k. You can barely get an F150 4x4 King Ranch for that price.

The hard part about buying a truck with options is that if you want to pick from the dealer floor, you either have bare bones work trucks or fully loaded trucks. I couldn't care less about the navigation or 20-speaker stereo. I just want my tow package, rear AC (shame on GM for not offering rear AC for the '14+ models), AC/heated seats, backup camera, and power folding mirrors. I don't want a sissy step in my tailgate or on my bumper. I don't want those gimmicky tie down loops for the bed; I'm quite proficient with ratchet straps and what self-respecting man doesn't own a set?

I have a '11 GMC CCSB Duramax, '12 F150 FX4 Ecoboost, and '13 F150 Lariat Ecoboost. All 4x4, of course. The Ecoboost is the biggest fraud ever perpetrated on the American people. Second only to Obama. There's nothing Eco about them, and they're not exactly reliable either. My '12 has been in the shop 7x in the year I've owned it, including going into limp mode twice due to a bad throttle body. It has the 3.73 gears and averages 14-14.5mpg. The '13 has the 3.31 gears and gets about 16.5mpg. Compare that to my Duramax which gets 22-23mpg. Put a trailer on the back and my Duramax will still get close to 20mpg, and the F150s will dip down near the single digits.

But hey, the F150 is easier to park and has AC seats. lol

That 7.3 is probably worth the same (or more) now, as when you sold it. lol

My pop still has his. The only issue it's had is a chipped overdrive gear, burned up clutch, and worn turbo fan. Other than that, it runs great and drives true.

The bext 4x4 vehicle I have owned is a Land Rover. That thing went through clechie gumbo mud on street tires like it was nothing more than wet grass. Pissed me off that my wife HATED me taking that thing through the pasture.

Ummm... My 6.7 Power Stroke has 400hp/800lb tq. Far from being choked and much more power then most heavily modded 7.3's.

Your 6.7 also has urea additives and an EGR which will bring a swift and harsh death to your truck. It doesn't help that the EPA has outlawed programmers for the new motors. Don't get me wrong, I love my dad's 6.7 but it's not as reliable as his 7.3 in the long run.
