I often wonder why ?

Just like the French MAS 35A that you can put a sleeve in the chamber to shoot .32 acp, you can shoot a lesser caliber in the AMT, like .30 sloppy chicken.
Might have to modify the magazine a little...

S&W Shield is same size (other than bore diameter). That info comes from what I read and comparing Shields (one on top of the other) at my LGS

All you get is more capacity and slightly better penetrative than a 9mm and slightly less expansion

I presume the pricey Nighthawk 1911 is also the same size as traditional 1911
