Went to Hudson, New Hampshire today due to a rare day off from work.

Went to Granite State Gun Range to rent a machine gun and and spend some bucks shooting( my plan was to buy a case of ammo and shoot till it was gone)

Range has a policy that you can not rent a gun unless you ;1) have a gun when you come in or 2) have a friend with you.
Since I am working in Massachusetts I obviously do not have a gun with me.

So needless to say, they would not budge on the rule :(( even with TXLTC Instructor card, and other gun related carry licenses I have)

I could have purchased a long gun from them and taken it out of the store, turned around and come back in with my own gun, and rented what I wanted.

Tell me how this makes any sense at all?
Needless to say, I left without spending any money frivolously with them. Shame too, as there were a couple of good knives I would have bought on my way out.

I have been presented with a similar policy, later on learned that a year earlier some guy had come in, rented a gun and blew his brains out. You can't blame them for being cautious.

I know why the policy is in place. Sucks but it is what it is.
The fact that they would sell me a rifle ( in the store, by my self) but not rent me a gun unless I had a friend with me or my own gun seems pretty assbackwards.

Last week a lady went to a local range and rented a gun and bought some ammo. She shot up the ammo and left. Later in the day, she came back and rented a gun and bought some ammo. While on the range, she puts a bullet into her head.
This range now has adapted the policy that you must come in with a gun before you can rent a gun.

They don't care if you off yourself elsewhere. Not many suiciders are going to buy a gun and then go right in the do the deed. It is about mitigation, not 100% prevention
Most folks that go in to rent a suppressed MP5 and buy 1,000+ rounds of ammo for a morning of shooting and who have a valid LTC would seem to fall outside of the suicidal parameters.
And per their written rules, if I come in with my own gun or a friend I could rent a gun from them.

As I posted above, I know why they have that policy, but does it make any sense at all that they will sell me a long gun, but not rent a firearm to me ?
They don’t want you killing yourself with their gun. Does it make sense? No to me but to a Lawyer it surely does.

They don't want $10 per hour employees making that call. ;)

There was a rash of gun rental suicides around here a few years ago. A LEO went to a popular range, rented a gun on the pretext of considering purchase, then said he forgot his hearing protection in the car. He went outside, sat in his car, and ate a bullet. I can understand ranges wanting to do everything they can to prevent having that on their property. (i.e., Do stupid things on your own property.)

There are way more than you hear about. A local range has had two, and neither made to the media. I am aware of another one at a different range last year, again, no media

Those who commit suicide having zero consideration for the hell it may create for others removes any sympathy I might have had for the motivation to kill themselves.

    Rotten bastards!

If you're gonna kill yourself go way out in the woods and quietly die ya doosch.

    Out here by the lake!
Years ago I was in Illinois cruising around with a buddy checking out gun stores from my past. We went into one store & they had a rifle I wanted to look at. The clerck/jerk asked for my FOID card. I thew dowm my Texas CHL instead. I was told I could not only look at the gun, but needed to leave the gun shop.
