I'm pretty sure this one hasn't been hit on yet...so...

"Decimate" is not a synonym of "wipe out completely". If a military unit is decimated, using the actual definition of the word it means they're decreased by 1/10. Decimation was a disciplinary measure in the Roman army - if a unit screwed up in a big way, they'd be put in a line and every tenth man would be executed. The modern usage of the word is so freaking incorrect...

Robert Mueller Airport in Austin closed at 11:59 on May 22, 1999 and Austin-Bergstrom opened at 12:01 a.m., on May 23rd. A flight of three general aviation aircraft was the last departure out of Robert Mueller and the first arrival into ABIA. Every pilot and passenger in that flight of three had originally learned to fly at Robert Mueller.

The only thing left of Robert Mueller is the control tower

My uncle Ed told me a story way back in the early 50's about his time on the Mexican border with the US Cavalry. He was in a troop that was made up of drunks and screw ups. They were not allowed near the war. They did KP, clean and feed horses and other menial tasks. His unit was F Troop. This was long before the TV show F Troop came out.

Was your uncle Ed a horse by chance?

Vietnam Era lottery. Reinstitution of the lottery (1st since 1942) was a change from the "draft the oldest man first" method, which had been the determining method for deciding order of call.
1st lottery for YOB 1944-1950 drawing was Dec 1, 1969, for men to be drafted in 1970; highest number called was 195. My number was less than 195.

Dolph Lundgren is the only 80s/90s action star who could actually do everything he was shown doing in his movies and more.

Consider: he is a Swedish Marine Corps and Amphibious Ranger veteran. He has a Masters degree in chemical engineering. He put himself through college working as a bouncer. He holds a third degree black belt in karate and was a champion in international full contact tournaments. As a green belt, he narrowly lost a tournament fight to a 2nd degree black belt (who later that year would be the world champion) in a decision that is still considered "controversial".

He's a martial arts master/chemical engineer/special forces soldier. No way anyone would buy a character with that background in any movie.

On the subject of famous people who are secretly badasses...

Clark Gable, mourning the death of his wife Carole Lombard in an airplane crash during a war bonds tour, enlisted in the US Army's Officer Training School at 41 years old and trained as an aircraft gunner and aerial cameraman. He was assigned to the 1st Motion Picture Unit of the US Army and sent to England to work on a movie about 8th Air Force bomber gunners. He officially flew 5 combat missions in B-17 bombers, including one where his bomber was hit by anti-aircraft fire that nearly wounded Gable. Unofficially, however, the men of the bomber wing he was shadowing remember him flying dozens of missions, often without his camera. It seems that, in defiance of his orders Captain Gable had a habit of randomly replacing waist gunners on combat missions, allowing the men he stood in for to have a break while he took the risks for them. Gable would retire as a major in 1947 having been awarded the Air Medal and Distinguished Flying Cross.

My uncle, who passed a few years ago, was a Marine door gunner on a Huey in Vietnam. He was shot down 3 times & lived to tell the tales. One of the times he got shot down, him & another guy that made it through the crash landing & had to survive for 4 days while the VC were looking for them. I never got the whole story but I'm sure it was pretty intense for those few days.

I had never heard of the Air Medal until after my father passed away. He was a Marine for 30+ years. He never told stories about his service days. One of the few things he did tell me was that he would volunteer to be the door gunner on helicopter missions in Korea. I discovered that he had been awarded the Air Medal while going thru binders with all his papers from his service days.
