Took me a while to feel like replying.

A house gun…all guns we own are just categorized by favoritism assuming they aren’t junk.

My Glock 17 is my work gun and my property gun and sometimes my edc. Been carrying that cz rami more on my weekends.

Our house guns are revolvers. No mag springs to wear out, no extractor springs to wear out, they just sit there loaded…

Our other house gun is a 30-06 because we have the high ground and about 250-300 yards away from people activity in each direction.

    …get a eaa in 10mm.

I own an FN FNX-45 hammer fired pistol, purchased for back woods hiking/hunting protection. It handles well and is very accurate and dependable. They make a 9mm version in the FNX-9, 17 rounds and priced well. I would highly recommend this hammer fired option

I love HK's and classic SIGs. That said, I'd say go with a Beretta 92 series. This is the golden age for Beretta 92's. It'll probably never be as good for those as it is right now. Plentiful and inexpensive mags. Tons of models to choose from, with a handful of new models coming out each year for the past several years. Reasonable prices for most of them. Great aftermarket support. There's just a whole lot to love with those guns.

If it was me, I'd probably try to find a good deal on a used 92X, M9A1, or 92A1. Just beware, there are a few differences in internals with the 92A1, so you wouldn't have 100% parts compatibility with other 92 models.

All three of those models have a few nice improvements over the standard 92FS model, such as:
    • Checkered front and backstraps (for the 92A1 and M9A1)
    • Railed frames if you need a weapon light
    • A slight relief cut in the beavertail area (92A1 and M9A1. 92X has a Vertec style frame that offers more options with various grip choices)
    • Dovetail front sight (only the 92X)
And probably some other changes I'm forgetting.

Awhile back I managed to get a hold of a 92D-XR (DAO). With Mec-gar 18rd mags (my favorite for the 92's, they work great!), it's basically an 18rd 9mm revolver. With a few spring and other internal mods, the trigger is insanely smooth and a joy to shoot as far as DAO's go.

So many great suggestions and options. Y'all are a wealth of information. Ended up finding a good deal and going with yet another Beretta as a few here suggested, a Beretta 92FS INOX. I'm a Beretta fan and have two already as mentioned, but not a 92 model, so it makes sense. Always wanted to own one even though the CZs were tempting. Love the feel of it and can't wait to shoot it next week.

Looking to add to the stable with a dedicated hammer fired DA/SA 9mm double stack for my office and looking at various options. Will just be a home protection/range pistol, so capacity over carry and no worries about concealability, weight, etc. Would consider a minimum of 15-round mag capacity, but prefer 17 and up. Like to stay $600 or less retail (seem to be some good buys on the CZ P-07 and P-09 sub $500 new as examples) but would consider $800+ range for something really special, whether new or secondhand. But it's just going to be used as described, not a competition shooter. Here are the usual brand suspects I've thought about that have DA/SA offerings:

    Beretta
    CZ
    Sig
    HK
    Springfield

And on the Beretta, even though I'm a huge fan, I do already have two PX4 Storm pistols, the standard compact and the full size in Inox, which is another house gun. I absolutely love them both but would like some variety and don't want to add a third, though would consider something from the renowned Beretta 92/M9 line, which I don't currently own.

Any thoughts on specific pistols recommended or brands I'm overlooking are appreciated!
You just missed my CZ Shadow 2 that I had for sale. I closed the post due to no interest.

Not quite! I posted in your thread about what at sweet pistol it was, but way more than I wanted to spend on nothing more than a defensive office gun. But if you're taking offers.....I'd pay what I bought this for. And that is a sweet pistol for sure even though I'm not a fan of urban gray. Just out of the range of what I was looking at.

Out of the brands you mentioned, I prefer Beretta. I currently own several Beretta pistols and five of them are 92 series pistols. Those are a 92SB, two 92FS and two 92FS Compact L Type M. I find the 92 series pistols, like most other Beretta pistols I have owned, to be: extremely reliable as to function, inherently accurate and to be the most accurate of all of my personally owned pistols when in my hands as well as being the most accurate for me as compared to any other semi-auto pistols that I have ever fired.

While you said you'd prefer a pistol with a 17 round capacity and the 92 series mostly come with 15 round mags, higher capacity magazines for the 92 series pistols are readily available. Parts are also readily should the need ever arise. Let me add this: I have fired many thousands of rounds through my Beretta 92SB and it has never had a part fail and continues to function flawlessly as do my other 92 series pistols.

I got my first Beretta pistol in or around 1980 when I was in the Border Patrol. Fell in love with Berettas, so to speak, back then and only have been disappointed by a single Beretta model in all that time. That would be the Bereta APX A1 Carry 9mm striker fired piece of junk pistol.

My thoughts about the APX A1 Carry are at the linked page here. Let me say, in defense of Beretta, everyone is entitled to forgiveness when they make a mistake now and again or when they, in my opinion, rarely make one as with Beretta and the APX A1 Carry. It is the only Beretta pistol that I have ever thought of as a cheap piece of junk. On the other hand, the 92 series pistols, at least those with which I have experience, are simply marvelous in my estimation.

Perhaps one of the most useful & important features of this entire site is that we can learn from others’ experiences.

My experience w/ Beretta has been very different. Two of the Beretta’s I’ve owned have been real dogs, the third was a very nice 92 “Centurian” model.

I’ve never had a problem with ANY Colt or Taurus. I had a S&W 3913 which bady needed a “trigger job”, then was a very sweet carry gun. All other S&W’s have been fine. My one Kimber is a piece of crap. Sauer’s have been great. Of the Walthers, I couldn’t hit a barn with any, but I think it is me, not the guns.

This site & similar also alert us to problems of design or manufacture. Some here seem very knowledgeable in various aspects of these topics,

One warning worth repeating, especially for those new to C C, and to
”carrying” in general, is that ease of carry, ease of concealment, & comfort should be of prime importance when selecting a carry gun. The overriding feature of any defensive weapon is that it must be PRESENT WHEN NEEDED. No matter the other wonderful features of a gun, if it isn’t there for the emergency, it has failed its most important duty.

I once learned this the very hard way.

    Stay SAFE !

My EDC is my house weapon as well. Beretta 92x compact. Langdon trigger job in a bag, Wilson Combat sights. It shoots very well and I stay current with it. I know to many folks who have a dedicated house weapon that doesn't get a lot of range time. I will eventually pick up another 92x as a backup in case of use . Good luck with your search.

A firearm being there is not a feature of the gun as you call it. A firearm being there (as in where and when needed) is a responsibility not a feature and it is the responsibilty of the person who owns or uses that gun. If the gun is not there where and when needed that is not a failure of the firearm, it is a failure of the user. I would recommend that anyone not blame the gun for not being there as it is an inanimate object; they cannot walk over to you and jump into your holster and say okay let's go. Rather, take responsibility yourself when and if you are the reason that you failed, in your responsibility to yourself, to be armed and ready as appropriate. Better yet, be responsible in the first place and make sure you have it with you as often as legally possible.

If you love yourself a CZ but want to spend a little less..the older Jericho 941s are CZ clones, i have an older 941F all steel solid 9mm, accurate, reliable..they take CZ mags I believe (fact check that one). Couple hundred dollars cheaper than a CZ.

Well, when CC became “legal” in Texas, I switched from a PPKS to a G21.

It was way too big to conceal. I soon realized this and got a more appropriate carry gun, a S&W3913. But, many others would have just left it at home.

A smaller gun is almost always better to start with; b/c a person will actually carry it.

    Your choice. . . . .

Personal preference is going to have a lot to do with it. I wanted a 92 for a long time but for whatever reason I had a few Sigs before I got my first 92. After Sig ownership the 92 didn't seem that great

From your list it's Sig > CZ > Beretta. HK makes a fine gun, but they hate you.

My top DA/SA handguns are the Beretta Elite LTT (from LTT with trigger job), CZ SP01 Tac and CZ P09. With keeping in the $600 dollar range, I would go with a CZ P09 and add some CGW parts to it. The P09 is just flat out amazing and my favorite poly handgun.
