I'll generally (and without volunteering that there are proper, legal signs out there) say something to them like "You know that sign only affects people who aren't out to break the law, right? Someone wants to do harm they're gonna ignore it."

Generally it'll either get a blank look, or the dawning of realization that the sign is stupid.

But it makes me feel good having that metal or plastic sign. It’s magical powers stop criminals.

And the reply to trying to justify the sign is "Yeah, some asshole's gonna rob you, but he sees that sign and says 'Oh, damn, I'm not allowed to bring my stolen gun in there...I'd better go home'..."
It’s good you see the democrat logic finally. Criminals obey laws and obey signs. They are scared of em.

Once a year I to to the local mall to try to find Christmas gifts. Sometimes I do find some gifts, sometimes not, but I always regret going. This time I noticed that they have large 3' x 4' signs inside the mall area saying that they ban guns and that some of the mall security is equipped with firearms detecting equipment. I went back to the doors to double check and, as I suspected, no 30.06 or 30.07 signs. And just what are the "firearms detecting equipment"? I suspect that the signs are there to scare kids. Nobody who knows anything about the law would pay any attention, and certainly no criminals would pay attention.

Exactly. It’s difficult to picture a bank robber walking up to a bank, seeing the 30.06 sign, then turning around to go find another bank. Laughably ignorant.

I don't pay any attention to them and never want to strike up a conversation with them either. Not my job to try and school them, they are already too far gone when they put up the sign. If I have to be there it won't be for long and will not go back. I do not patronize idiot owner's businesses if I can help it.

OK, but those owners who had a sign put-up by an employee or customer w/o their permission can be appreciative of the info.

I think I once had a conversation with a decision maker at a business by accident.

There's a medical building my sis and I visit weekly. It's 07 posted and nothing else. Businesses in the building can put up their own signs, of course.

On the way out one time, sis noticed that a business had put up signs. A lot of signs. There were 10 or 12, maybe more, on a wall near the entrance. She seemed a little puzzled by the number of signs.

Being the windbag I am, I proceeded to pontificate on the situation. I left her in her chair in the middle of the lobby and started going over each of the signs, showing why each was defective. Some had outdated language, some had the text obscured by overprinting, and the plain old gun busters sign was laughable. Besides, all the signs were on an exterior wall past the entrance meaning that anyone walking directly into that business would never see them.

Anyone in the lobby could overhear me but there was nobody there. I concluded with, approximately, "It's difficult to do but somebody has posted a dozen signs and not a single one has any legal impact on anyone. I guess they just ordered every sign in a catalog and figured that would cover their ass. Too bad they picked a catalog put out by someone who knows nothing about Texas signage."

Then I walked back to sis to push her out and noticed there was one guy in the lobby, at the entrance, who was listening intently with a bemused look on his face. When we left, he went on in, turning the corner behind that business, going to the area where their employee entrance was located.

When we came back the next week, the signs were all gone. :)

This might be sufficient to ban permitless carry people though as the 30.05 language is very controversial. Not enough to ban LTC holders. Our legislators did us no favors when writing constitutional carry and made things worse in some aspects.

I see the chances of that happening as very slim. Possible, but I am still not going to engage them. There's a lot more to this game than is apparent and I am not playing it. I see it as a supreme waste of my time....something I am short of to begin with.

Why would you care, it doesn't mean anything.
    Nothing legal about it.

    Shouldn't be excluding anyone.
Ok, fair point. But why give your hard earned money to a dumbass? I don't even bother wasting the oxygen on these business owners, my money just walks right back out the door.

To that point, is there a thread where we're sharing what businesses support/don't support 2A?
