I say move it to the second Monday, make it a federal holiday and get rid of early, mail, and absentee voting. Vote only in person and we can dip our finger in ink like they did in Iraq.

Hell, we have the technology - since an ID is (and should be) required, there's no real reason any polling place can't accept ballots for any precinct. Things would be a lot more convenient if I could vote in the county my office is in rather than the county I live in. I've missed voting a couple of times in the past because of that - I've got a long commute. Luckily now I can work from home a lot of the time.

I hope so. But when I voted last week there were many there that LOOKED like Peto supporters. Not your average Republican voters.
You know…. I was just sitting here and a Beto ad came on and he was telling me all he was going to do as governor and it occurred to me. Even if he wins he isn’t going to do shit. It’s not like the legislature is turning blue…

I'll be glad when I don't have to see his mug on TV, last night I couldn't change the channel fast enough.
I’ve been saying that for several years now. Hopefully 3rd times a charm.

Making it a federal holiday doesn’t mean everyone gets the day off to vote.

True, you're right from that perspective, but there is another layer to this cake, and arguably a much bigger layer. Even if (God willing, when) Beto loses, there could still be negative consequences.

Look at his very existence as a politician -- the only reason he still gets funding from the bottomless coffers of leftist donors is because he came close to beating Cruz. "Wow, in red Texas, Beto almost unseated Cruz, let's pour in money and see if we can't flip that state blue"

And the same will happen if he does well against Abbot, even if he loses. It will encourage the money spigot to open more fully, which will fund more dead people voting dem, and illegals voting dem, and even (gasp) more legal voting for dems because they'll have the money for 10000 commercials, billboards, door-knockers, etc, etc, etc.

If he were to win (God forbid), it would be a train wreck for this state. Yes, the legislature blah blah blah. Forget even the executive crap he would pull as governor. I'm talking about the influence. The appointments (during a 4 year term, Texas governor appoints about 1,500 people!). It radiates out like cancer, even from just one elected official, but when that official is a freaking governor, it really matters.

All these dozens of advisory committees and oversight boards and task forces and councils and trustees and etc..."the Swamp" -- all would be leftist scumbags looking to destroy Texas as we know it. Texas would change greatly in 4 years under Beto, even with an entirely hostile legislature, and no governor gets nothing that he wants -- the legislature would surely end up throwing him some bones here and there, because you can bet there are plenty of RINOs hiding in the Texas legislature who will snuggle up to Beto on a number of issues.

Anyone that thinks O'rourke can't royally screw up the State of Texas because the legislature is Rep is delusional. He can. And he will do anything and everything he can to accomplish it. It just means he will not get as much as he wants as fast as he wants. Not only that, but he can keep the conservatives from doing anything good for the State as well or make it MUCH harder to do so. Stuff it would take years, if not decades, to fix.

I'll take my chances with Abbott thank you very much.

Many are required to work a 12 hour shift on a federal holiday.
Yes, but the change to only in-person, for one day only, would hopefully instill a different mentality.

I don’t agree with mandating companies to do anything, I would like to see them close no differently than Thanksgiving or Christmas.

I’m not opposed to a good PR campaign that convinces companies to do so.

I worked in nuclear plants and refineries. The office personnel got holidays while those who operated the plants had to provide 24 hour/365 day coverage.

We always vote election day at the local middle school down the block. We both attended there in the 1960s and the large b&w pics of the principals still above the voting area as we enter. They never have showed all the ones since. Several of them went on to our high school down the street. Being on first name basis with them back then showed a few behavior flaws I had to work on which I accomplished. We can't wait to once again walk in and vote on Tuesday. Twice for Trump and once against Beto are our proudest votes all these years. Tuesday will,be the second one against that guy...

If everything was electronic you are right but the ballots are different for different home addresses and I don't trust an all electronic ballot.

If anything, it might finally motivate the Legislature to start curbing the emergency powers that Abbott has been abusing over the last few years.

I like in person voting, but having it only on one day makes it difficult for a lot of people to vote. I don’t know when the last time I voted on Election Day was.
