I have an old coal forge... making me want to break it out and fire it upI also have a strip of rail and a bigger one I picked up along the way. I have never used the big one. If you are in the Austin area you would be welcome to it. Just let me know. I don't think it has ever been used. Not anything high grade or anything.

Making a coal forge is much simpler than a gas forge. Ihave already built two coal forges but Ineed some coal for them!I keep thinking I should eventually build or acquire a coal forge. Then I think "where the hell does someone get coal in Texas?"

My problem is I need coal! From everything I've seen, forge welding will be much, much easier in a coal forge. But even if I find a coal supply that's a long way down the road.

I got mine from a farrier supply in Conroe, but it isnt hard to get. Its not like the stuff goes bad so you could get a bulk shipment and store it.I keep thinking I should eventually build or acquire a coal forge. Then I think "where the hell does someone get coal in Texas?"
tHAT'S WHY i BUILT MINE OYSIDE OF THE GARAGE, AND CLEARED THE GROUND.Before I consider a coal forge I'm gonna need a workshop that doesn't have a wood floor...
There are few smells better than a coal forge...tHAT'S WHY i BUILT MINE OYSIDE OF THE GARAGE, AND CLEARED THE GROUND.

My anvilIis going to be outside next to the forges.Yeah, I'll need mine within easy reach of the anvil. My knees can't take stepping down out of the workshop to put steel in the forge, then stepping back up into it to get to forging on the anvil.
Charcoal (the good stuff) is good too.I need to find some coal first!
Itried some of the chunk charcoal but it didn't work so great for me.Charcoal (the good stuff) is good too.

You have seen my garage, and kind of have run out of room in there for any more stuff!I have an area outside I can wheel everything to - even has some concrete pavers for the anvil, and it's portable. But so far I've only forged inside - it's nice and toasty in the winter inside the workshop, and in hot weather the sun's too brutal.

That big work tsble I built took up a loy of floor space!LOL yeah, true. My little workshop's getting that way.
