I bought a used (like new) P225 in 2010. Seller claimed it was new construction built from a stash of parts the factory discovered. Not been able to verify this "new" batch of pistols with an internet search, but so far I'm believing it.

Does the slide say "West Germany" or "Germany" on it?

I LOVE these. They're such an enjoyable size. Yes, there are smaller guns for the capacity. Though, from a shootability standpoint, the P6 / P225 / P225-A1 are a joy to shoot. Enough grip to hold, control, and manipulate comfortably for most people. Extremely accurate and reliable. Not a lot of downsides.

About the only issue is the parts supply for these is drying up rapidly. So definitely seek out some extra breech block pins, since those really need to be replaced every 3-5K rounds. Also a few spare extractors since SIG isn't making them anymore. The OEM twisted coil recoil springs are also long since out of production. True, there's always Wolff and other brand traditional springs, but personally I prefer the original spec.

As far as mods, I do have some solutions! I put part of the GGI SRT kit in my P6 (the duty-rated version). The stock safety lever pin would not fit through the GGI safety lever of mine for some reason. I used a safety lever from a factory SRT kit (PKIT-SRT-226-227-229) and the GGI sear which is better quality of materials.
    • GGI sear & included 19lb mainspring
    • Short reach hammer strut (HAMMER-STRUT-8): MGW, TGS
    • Short, polymer, mainspring seat (MAINSPRING-SEAT-2): MGW, TGS
The combo of that hammer strut and mainspring seat allowed the GG main spring to fit. That seat also makes it MUCH easier to pull the mainspring.

In terms of other mods, here's a few companies still making options:

Overall, a massive difference over the stock heavy DA pull. Reset is fantastic. SA pull is superb.

And here's a much older picture with Hogue rosewood checkered grips:

That is some great info! I think I'll be spending some money on some parts kits. I don't envision this to be a high round count gun - but after verifying function / sight regulation, it could be an occasional carry gun for sure.

I think the Sig X-Ray sights are what I'm going to go with on this one - I knew any classic P-series sights will work - thankfully Sig didn't change what worked from this gun to the newer guns.

Bringing the trigger weight down will make this a lot more fun to shoot in DA mode. The single action is a little creepy too - my Walther PDP has a much nicer trigger than the SA pull on this gun.

Good to know on the extractor too - I thought that might be something carried over to the P228, or even the 226 but I suppose that was asking too much.

Have you ever tried a 239 slide on the frame with a 225 to see how it fit and functioned?

Huh, that's pretty cool. When you hear of gun companies "finding a stash of parts" you have to kind of wonder how palettes of frames / receivers / slides etc get lost or forgotten. You'd think inventory control in a business like that would be super tight. It is pretty cool to see some newly made old models though!

Gave mine to my son, I did not care for the trigger on jt, but it was a neat little pistol. I bought some nice wood trips from a guy in Hungary, Marchal Grips, they made it look nice.

A few years ago they had some police trade ins from some European country. Think I had paid $300.

had wear, but the function was all Sig. I wished I had bought 2 but they went quick.

eventually gave it to my son for his first pistol

Hey Sasquatch, The "Sig Service Package" sounds like a good deal at $144.95 when you factor in factory installation of SIGLITE factory night sights.

If they were doing X-Ray sights instead, that'd be tempting. I'm familiar enough with the inner workings of Sig P-series that I can do a lot of that myself. I found X-Ray sights for $99.99 - but I'm going to have to pay to have them installed at a gunsmith since I don't have a sight pusher.

Another member is being kind enough to pass along some spare parts for the P6 that should slick up the trigger pull and reduce its pull weight, so that's pretty cool. I hafta hunt down a few other parts - main spring strut and main spring base to work with the new trigger parts but those should be easy to come by.

My chief complaint is the single stack for being such a big pistol. I still have an extra factory mag for a p6 somewhere, when I get over this crap, I’ll list it for sale.

Yeah, but for its day it was pretty normal. Beretta has a compact, single stack version of the 92 (I think its the 92M?) that likewise has a chunky grip by today's standards. Compared to my modern striker fired slim line guns - the P6 is far more comfortable to hold and shoot. Something to be said for ergonomics over the ultimate in thinness and weight savings.

Naturally though - they evolved the line and we got the P228 which is the double stack iteration of the 225. The 225 is just the little brother of the original 9mm P220.

As I recall the last batch of new P225s were the ones marked "German Police Pistol" released by SIG in 2010.

In general, SIG pistols made before 1995, 5 years after German reunification, with carbon steel slides will be stamped "Made in W Germany" and just "Made in Germany" after.

To Sasquatch, if you want someone to work on your P6, you could try The SIG Armorer. He is based in Texas and several members of different SIG forums rave about his work.

If you just want to reduce the DA trigger pull, you can purchase a pack of main springs from Wolff and swap them out yourself. I have heard people claim they went as low as 16 Lbs with no light strikes, but I personally wouldn't go lower than 19 Lbs. The standard P6 spring is 28 Lbs and the P225's is 24 Lbs, in case you were not aware..

Keep those Walther & SW guns away from your Sig. No need to give it any bad habits.

I fear the German guns are starting to corrupt my all American gun. I caught it surfing for German dungeon pr0n last night, and caught it looking at Audis and Porches in another tab.
