There are actually tons of mountain lions in Texas. I see them fairly often. I don’t shoot them because I do not hunt apex predators( professional courtesy ) and there is no season or bag limit on them.

I have shot 2 black bears in CA, both with a 270 win. Was after a big one (on the plus side of 800#) but could never get close. A friend of mine did get close to this same bear...once. He was on the opposite side of a bush and could hear the bear eating on the other side. All he had was a S&W 500 revolver (maybe a variant), but couldn't get a shot. Toughest animal that I hunted was an Audad outside of Alpine. First shot pinned him (300 ultra mag @ 437 yds. across a canyon). Finished him off with 270 win. Have never seen a mountain lion/cougar in the wild.

Well, I would not hunt anything in Texas without reading over game regs first anyway. Reading the book eliminates ignorance and being in the dog house with game wardens.
