There's a line that can be crossed that will earn people a timeout. The line, though, is really, really fuzzy. That's doubly true where everyone involved knows everyone else in meatspace. Exchanges that look like personal insults are sometimes just takin' the craic outta each other. You kinda need to know the participants.

With all due respect to you Ben, I can tell when it's just joking around and when they are personal insults, or they are being implied, then they try and justify the insult as being just a sarcastic remark. And I completely agree with you.
