Today, I got a call from a local car dealer asking for some help. I drove a car to the auto sale at Houston. Actually, we took 3 pickups and 1 SUV. I drove a 2019 Ford Flex for everyone to come back home.
It's rained all day here but the trip was uneventful. We dropped the vehicles off and one of the other drivers wanted to drive back. I was riding shotgun. There was an accident on I-10 so we took Hwy 90. Somewhere along Hwy 90 there was a sound like a bomb went off. Something flew off of a truck and hit the windshield. Glass flew everywhere, all in my lap and went as far as the rearmost seat.
I have never seen a windshield break all the way through to the inside. Whatever hit the windshield nearly came inside.

I was on an onramp years ago with a tow truck towing a vehicle in front of me. Poorly tightened lug nuts came off of wheel on towed vehicle, and 3 of them took out the windshield. No penetration, but loud, and scary!

I had to dodge a wheel, loop 1604 San Antonio, hit the brakes and it whizzed right in front of me. How do you lose a whole wheel? The the last remaining wheel nut let go ? The wheel was going at least 60 mph, went across the median, missed oncoming cars and kept on going.

When I worked along 225 (Pasadena/Galena Park), we had a windshield repair service in our plant parking lot once a week, nearly every week. Lots of trucks and lots of debris - it was tough on windshields.

Some years ago, going to Plano to visit my brother, heading north on I45, an El Camino in front of me lost the dryer that was unsecured in the back. That dryer looked like it went about 20 feet into the air when it went airborne! When it hit he ground, it practically exploded. I just slowed down a bit and went to the opposite side of the highway and was able to avoid any damage.

In Houston I have dodged a variety of things which have fallen off trucks. Most memorable were an extension ladder and a 30' joint of 16" oilfield casing (that was gonna really do some damage).

I remember years ago seeing someone who had left a box of some heavy wrenches on their back bumper. It had been wet and was falling apart, and the wrenches were coming out one at a time while he was doing 60 mph through down town Houston. I just barely dodged one, but I imagine it might have left a pattern like that.

A few years ago I was taking a carload of boys to a baseball game and a truck carrying a dozer blew by us, rocks bouncing all over the highway. Sure enough, a BIG one bounced up and hit my windshield. Cracked the heck out of it. My insurance has a $100 deductible for onsite repairs. They did it at my office while I worked.
