First time visit with the doctor by telemedicine. His office calls early this morning to tell me that they will send me a link by email. Click the link and go. Not quite.

I had set up Zoom the night before just to see how things look. Logitech headset with mic, all good. I look fine on the video, lighting good, etc. HP laptop running Windows 10.

Doctor calls, I know him well, did you get the email? Not yet. Email comes. Click the link, Internet Explorer not supported. Have to download Firefox or Chrome. Download Firefox and install, then it needs to update. Click the link on email and it opens Internet Explorer again. Try to copy and paste the link into Firefox and it won't copy.

Go to settings (Windows 10) make Firefox my default browser, click the link in the email and it goes nicely. Doctor is using https://doxy.me/, your doctor may be using someone else. See if you can find out in advance so you can set up on your end a compatible program.

Logitech USB Headset H390 with Noise Cancelling Mic from Amazon. Works good, price a little higher now than when I bought 3 months ago.

I'm probably due for blood work so next visit will need to be in person. Unless they have a draw it yourself option. That could be interesting.

Been doing this for several years now, but only for things that don’t really require hands-on medicine.

Before we moved here we made appointments with a family care provider. When the time came for our appointments everything was shut down. A couple of days before our appointments we got a call from the Dr's office. The nurse asked if either of was sick and needed to see a doctor. We said no, we were just new patients establishing with a local doctor. They said that the doctor would call us at our scheduled appointment times.

The doctor called, introduced himself, and asked a few questions. He asked if we had any prescriptions that needed to be refilled. After he got our info he told us that we could schedule an in office appointment later after things opened back up.

We got an AOB from Cigna today saying that they denied our claim because they don't cover phone visits. Now we have to get the Dr to appeal to Cigna and change the coding on the claim.

Like what? BCBS insurance keeps sending me emails telling me I can do that, but I'm not sure what I'd do it for. Seems like every time I've ever been to the doctor, he's had to look at, touch, or listen to something. Plus they always take my weight and blood pressure.

My main issue, at the risk of opening myself up to ridicule, are viral canker sores. Yes, mouth fucking herpes.
    Fight me.

I’ll get one when I’m super stressed out and/or physically exhausted. Happens a few times per year.

They’ll go away in about 10 days on their own. Or overnight with an anti-viral.

It’s an ongoing thing for most of my adult life. So I’m well-versed on how to get rid of them. And the meds aren’t reallly dangerous or anything...they won’t prescribe “serious”/addictive meds.

I’ve also used it for seasonal colds/sinusitis evals. But often, for these they’ll tell me to go see a doc.

A quick phone cal is just so much easier than going to see a doc.

Cigna has a list of provided codes

Maybe refer this to your doctor so he can refile.
I am on Medicare and I believe it has only been recent that they paid the doctor for telemedicine or telephone visits. My wife has Blue Cross and not sure if they will pay.

    To OP,
Yeah I did tele-med with about the same results. We used Google Hangout instead of Zoom. Had to install Google Chrome. I took my own BP but doc took temp & blood sample the previous week in his parking lot. SMDH.

I'll tell any of you what your problem is for $10.
But can we get prescriptions for $20? I could give you a long list... :)

To be serious, I had my first telemedicine call a couple of weeks ago. My urologist noted that it was impossible to do a digital exam over the phone so we'd have to leave that for next time. Otherwise, we talked, made a change to meds, and I followed up with his office staff via the patient portal attached to his practice.

I have an in-person visit scheduled for 6 weeks from now. I guess I can't run away from that digital exam forever. :)

Count me as officially a fan of being able to just call my doctors for routine stuff.

Make sure that he only places one hand on your shoulder.
In all the time I knew him (which, unfortunately, was less than 20 years) that was one of only 2 dirty jokes my dad ever told me.

For oldsters, the punchline to the other one was "Cut across, Shorty!"
