Summarizing my earlier post, no matter how careful you are in eliminating additional sugar from your diet, processed foods have countless ways to stuff sugar into you!

Regarding the POOP issues that develop when you attack sugar intake, eating Yogurt was highly recommended. I spent a long time at several grocery stores reading nothing but Yogurt labels. Some of that crap had 22-24 grams of sugar in each container! The smallest amount of sugar I found was 8 grams in one Yogurt container! That clearly was NOT the way to go!

Bonnie got me onto a Probiotic for Seniors and there is no further problems in pooping concrete blocks! The pills cost $18 for 30 but they work perfectly! I get them at Wally World.

Very informative movies all .... although a bit lefty at times. However, the processed carbohydrates tends to be the killer when it hits our bloodstreams; and none of those food stuffs are no where near to being real.

    Agreed.

Last year, while developing a new consumer beverage product that was high in sugar, I used a refractometer to measure %Brix (the percentage of sugar in a liquid), but wanted a visual representation of what various amounts of sugar look like when compared to sugar cubes (~4g/ea), so I dug around on Google...

The owner of this website did just that, arranging the cubes into pyramids to represent how much sugar is in each product according to it's nutritional label. Check it out...

The proof is in the pudding! Comparing my weight when I got my Wolfgang Puck Pressure Oven around the first of December, 2014, I lost 14 pounds, gained two back then dropped the two pounds again! This is happening at a time when my walking and exercise are severely limited by that smashed toe! I'm happy and it's going in the right direction!

Eliminating sugar found in many processed foods has been very effective! Our food is stuffed with sugar and it's real tough to get the sources of the sugar tracked down!

I started out a couple weeks back eating dark leaf salads with spinach and I also eating raw vegetables like carrots and broccoli. I don't eat this every day, but am starting to substitute some meals each week.

    ---

The key to loosing weight remains 90% diet, 10% fitness. This is a great start ---- salads ---- as they tend to cut out nearly 75% of your daily *meal* calorie total, even if you dump ranch dressing on top.

I have always told my clients:

    1. Keep fast food to once every two weeks.
    2. Stop eating at 7:30 p.m. each night.
    3. Always eat breakfast.
    4. Drink 4-5 gl of water per day.
    5. DO NOT drink protein drinks. They will create a 'protein belly.'
    6. Work out 5 x week. ---> Find the time.
    7. *Never* eat carbs ( rice, pasta, bread, oatmeal, etc.) for dinner.
    8. Never eat at a buffet. Everytime you do, you s t r e t c h your belly that much further.
    9. Cut out beer. Lots of beer = beer belly.
    9. Stay away from weights in the beginning. Do pushups, pullups, body squats.
    10. Don't quit.

As an old fart I've generally stayed in shape since my diet is pretty clean throughout the week. If you can discipline yourself to the seat of your pants to eat right six out of seven days per week, the bodyfat will roll off your belly like water. The key is not getting a gym membership, but pushing back from the table, staying away from buffets and STOPPING EATING past 7:30 p.m. Starve while your watching t.v. ( even if the wife is stuffing pizza down her gullet ).

    Regards,
    Mick

Excellent Mick! I found that counting carbs has helped me the most. Then I made increases in excercise when I found that either my weight stalled or that I wanted to eat more.

I've been on a low carb diet for the past couple of months after my AIC spiked up to 11.5. I usually try to eat chicken, turkey, steak or pork with a salad for dinner. I've lost 15 lbs but lunch is always the hardest meal for me. I'm usually looking for a quick meal. That usually includes bread which is loaded with carbs.

I eat Sara Lee Delightful 45 Calorie Bread. Each slice is 9 carbs and tastes like crap BUT if you toast it you'll not know the difference from white bread. Toast the bread then add your layers as you see fit. An egg sandwich with two slices only equals 18 carbs, plenty of taste and energy, can be made in minutes. I have one each morning and then don't have to worry as much for the rest of the day. Do that twice a day and you've only eaten 36 carbs where a grown man consumes 110-180 per day. You'll lose weight just sitting still.

Last night I had a pulled pork sandwich on whole wheat bread plus a salad. When I checked my BS 1 1/2 hours later I was shocked it was only 100. Did some reading and learn whole wheat bread doesn't affect BS and is rich in fiber. I love white bread, especially the thicker types. But maybe I've finally have found a solution to my bread dilemma that has made lunches so difficult. Will have to try Sara Lee Delight bread. Thanks for that tip.

Never understood the popularity of Krispy Kreme. their donuts are smaller and more expensive than most everyone else's.

I love seeing this thread title underneath the Blue Bell thread title on the main page.

I'll never forget the first time I visited a Krispy Kreme donut shop. It was in Tampa, FL. You could smell the donut blocks away.

If you've only ever had the ones that are several hours old from convenience stores and the like then I understand. When they are fresh they are great, tho. Melt in your mouth...
Devil. I have been sugar free for six months. Carbless( insofar as no bread , rice or other carb heavy foods)and fried food less as well. Over 70 pounds lost.

Same here sugar and carbs free...4 months from 180lbs. to 147 lbs. Lots of protein and green veggies. Read up on Ideal Protein Diet which I did on my own because it was very costly. After I hit my target weight then I will re-introduce complex carbs. Good luck.

I have been using Splenda for a few years and have been reading about that being a sugar molecule bonded to a chlorine molecule and figured I should dump it.
I went to Stevia that is an herb and all natural. My coffee and tea taste much stronger now that I use it.
It's weird the Splenda I was used to had been masking the taste I guess.

I started out a couple weeks back eating dark leaf salads with spinach and I also eating raw vegetables like carrots and broccoli. I don't eat this every day, but am starting to substitute some meals each week.

Its funny, I am having less sugar cravings at night and actually have been craving the vegetables.

I know I'm no health expert, but If I can make this stick and get on the treadmill 3-4 times a week, I can do some good.
The wife found out she has a bad gluten allergy and I wonder if the Splenda brought that on?
Me and the kids have cut back big time on our bread eating to be supportive of her and I think that is going to help us as well

but for now, I seem to have been able to make some headway
No sugar for me for over 5 years. The difference is amazing, keep it up!
