S&W Precision Center.I’ll start off by saying, I am in no way ready to take on a 1911 build from scratch. But I was wondering if anyone on here has done either an 80% kit or taken different parts and put one together, hand fitting as you go. I really love the full size 1911’s, and I would love to have a somewhat custom built one without spending $2K plus.

Get the 2 Kuenhausen 1911 shop manuals and study them. Then get a new file and file card plus a piece of round steel about 1.125 by 8 inches. Put the steel in a good vise and start filing. Make the last 1 inch od the rod perfectly square .975x.975.
Now file it square again .75x.75.
If you can do that, you can build a good 1911. Remember, there are virtually no drop in 1911 parts.
The most valuable tool in the 1911 builders tool box is patience.
Those are they.
They look mighty fine. What does a bull barrel in a 1911 look like? Just that I have never heard of it. Seems like it might make for a crowded slide?Starting 2 new builds from the raw. Both will be 10mm's. I have grown very fond of that round.
It begins.....

Slide frame fitment is done on both. Started the show off cuts on the slide on top one. It will be a bull barrel. Bottom will have a one off custom comp on it. Still a ways to go.
