I have a lot of deer skulls and this is the only one with this.
It is from Arkansas, so ruling out a nasty meth habit, what causes this?
I'm guessing lack of phosphorous. But I dunno.Infections?
Or vitamin deficiency may?

There ya go with them big words again. It looks like fenestration to me.Maybe TXOMFS can verify.
Gingival fenestration defects may create problems regarding plaque control, root hypersensitivity, and esthetics. Gingival recession may be caused by periodontal disease, improper oral hygiene, frenal pull, bone dehiscence, improper restorations, tooth malposition, viral infections of the gingiva, and oral habits [2].May 20, 2013

Why not contact AR fish & game or whatever they are called and supply them with the pics, maybe even the skull. Could be something that makes the deer not fit for consumption by humans and they would likely be able to confirm that or rule that out.
Well, as over half of it has been eaten, I’m going to guess that it is fit to eat. Have some biologists I used to work with that will get back to me.Why not contact AR fish & game or whatever they are called and supply them with the pics, maybe even the skull. I hope so.Well, as over half of it has been eaten, I’m going to guess that it is fit to eat.
I process my own game at home. Been doing it for many years.I hope so.
Anyway sure looks weird.
I process my own game from start to finish, as well. It sure does seem to get more work intensive as the decades go by!I process my own game at home. Been doing it for many years.
Did not see or smell anything while butchering it that would indicate anything amiss.
He tastes fine and my wife and I aren’t dead ( nor is anyone else who has had sausage or burgers from him) so I am going with good to eat.
It got a lot easier this year. Bought a 1hp grinder and quit using the KitchenAid grinding attachment.I process my own game from start to finish, as well. It sure does seem to get more work intensive as the decades go by!
Reckon his name was Chad? The deer was originally from West Virginia. That’s the dew mouth your seeing.
