"We are a non-profit humanitarian group comprised of volunteers."
Then why the exempt plates?

Well, it's ~3.5 hours for me, though it took me 5.5 hours this time. I was on the road for an hour before I realized I had forgotten my CPAP machine so I had to go back home for it. Life sure is harder when you do stupid things.
As for your question, I'll start to balk at a 6 hour drive and if it's 8 or over I'll probably pass.
Pretty sure you’re on a list now.Next time I'll bring a camera and actually take some pictures instead of half-assing it with my phone.
For now, though, I leave you with the weirdest picture I took. I stopped at a 7-11 on the way to the range and this pulled in next to me. It was wearing exempt plates so I assume it's some sort of official vehicle but just what in the name of all that is holy is the "Patriot Emergency Response Team"?

Actually i could see a friday night dinner coming together for those early arrivals.

If you have someplace in mind we'd love to hear it.
Post it here, start a thread, or PM me info if you want the planning committee to discuss it in private first.
But yeah, I think we all would like a little more freedom. Two problems to think about first though. Most ranges won't allow Tannerite or much less using it to blow stuff up. Second is if it's a deer lease the fall meet pushes close to hunting season.
The general location is an issue too. Moving any direction much adds to people's drive.
Interesting point. I note that most of the 1000-yard competitive shooting venues in the state are private ranges. They're not gun clubs nor are they open to the public. They're just ranges built by people with land who like to shoot at long range and socialize with others who share their interests. That may require someone’s lease or personal ranch.
Given the right venue and structure of activities, I strongly agree.a full weekend would be most enjoyable
Yeah, that's why I posed the question in the first place. Having had a little time to think about it, though, I know of other examples of private groups being recognized as quasi-official NGOs and being given authority normally reserved for governments. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, for example, has an exemption carved out in federal law allowing them to receive, investigate, and retain obscene material. I've just never known such an organization that fielded their own official vehicles with exempt plates. I found that a little jarring. Then why the exempt plates?...Incorporation to me means a business, Sum Ting Wong.
Yessir. Soon as i win the lotteryIs there a TGT member, located roughly in the middle of the state, who would be willing to build a range on their land at their expense just to host a twice-a-year party?
Better range = weekend retreatIt was previously mentioned that the area and range are due to proximity of people in the triangle of the three major cities. Even with that some had a pretty good drive.
Is there a number of hours folks are willing to drive? For those that don’t drive too far, what would that number be that would make it too far?
For those west Texas boys, would another hour or so for a better range be too much?
Got to thinking about what Dawico said about previous meets and some of the fun that was had. If there was a range that would allow it, or someone’s deer lease that could be used, what is the point it’s not worth the extra fun?
Agreed! Although I usually drive there and back in one day, if we had a dinner planned for Friday night and a better range, I just may have to book a Friday and Saturday night stay. I would probably want to stay to the end of the day on Saturday.Better range = weekend retreat
yea there is more motivation to drive 6+ hours when you know you can blow something up or shoot an old carThese are all very intriguing concepts to me.
Course i never saw a 100 person reunion so i understand what yall are saying

"nonattendees" didn't specify!Incorrect. Just one of’em.
Vanguard is this coming weekend at Reveille Creek Ranch in Burnet. This is a huge facility that heppens to have a pretty awesome shooting facility as part of the ranch. The Reveille Creek Ranch Open PRS Bolt Series was a couple of weeks ago and was epic.
Maybe something could be structured with them as a semi-formal weekend event with camping, shooting, and training?
