Agreed. As many firearms floating around in this great nation, it should be mandatory that all kids go through basic firearms training.Kids need to be taught at a young age basic gun safety.

no, it is on them because they didn't secure the firearmIf the parents had not taught the kids gun safety and taken them shooting, this is on them.
Exactly!no, it is on them because they didn't secure the firearm
Firearms were never locked up when I grew up. And every one was loaded. We were taught not to handle them without an adult and we were taught to respect them.no, it is on them because they didn't secure the firearm
The parents are responsible. Why did he have access to a gun at his age?
^^^From the article...
"An older teen in the home told authorities that he purchased the .22-caliber rifle. The parents told officers that they did not know that there was a firearm in the home, Dallas News reports."

Admittedly, I didn't read it close enough but, It's still on the parents. They are the adults, it's their children, it's the parent's responsibilities to know what their children do and what comes in and out of their home. Tragic as is was, the parents hold the final responsibility.
Guilty as charged. Maybe not a lot, but certainly some.I brought a HELL of alot of stuff in and out of our house that my parents never knew about....
