    What's "drop shotting"?
    Way to rig lures.
A weight at the bottom, hook/lure about 12-16” above. Keeps the lure off the bottom so you can give it some action. What you see here is called “wacky” rigging the bait.

It was cheap then. We'd go down to the 61 street pier in Galveston late in the evening and try to catch a shark! Interesting and diverse group of people down there after midnight. :green:

    BTDT ;)
Ice chest full of beer, your tackle, camp stool and some bait shrimp you got at one of the bait houses on 61st.
It was generally the same people every night, and they each had their "spots" on the pier.

Also used to crab off of 61st with chicken necks saved from my FFA projects in high school, we'd trailer our horses in and camp on the beach for the weekend.

Bet you can't do that anymore.

Old enough to remember the roller coaster and ferris wheel on the beach?
Must of been around 1948 or so.

I tried fishing for trout with that setup in the local lake. Didn't work worth a poop. Neither did anything else I tried. :)

Watching the FLW bass tournament here in Hot Springs on TV this past weekend, saw the guy who ended up winning fishing the docks with a drop shot rig.

    SOB won $300,000.
And one of the reasons I rigged up that way this morning and didn't take the boat out ... besides just being lazy.

I wasn't in full swing yet in 1948! :green:

I was 5 or 6 when Dad's seismograph crew worked out of Galveston for a summer.
We lived in a trailer park off 61st, within walking distance of the beach.
Great place for a kid allowed free range ...
