It would make sense to someone wanting to have a piece of equipment they might actually use to save a life.

Wonder how many injuries the average person sees per year requiring a TW vs heart attacks.

But I get it. You say a small box is too inconvenient to carry around or have nearby. Probably not much bigger, or smaller even, than a lot of the first aid kits some of y’all are carrying around.

But by all means, forget that it’s far more likely a loved one would benefit from a portable defibrillator and buy a pile of tourniquets because they are more tacticool.

Do you have a portable AED? Do you even know how to use one? I do...I have completed Red Cross training on CPR and AED deployment every two years for the last 8 years since taking my current job. We have several in the building I work in. I can also tell you where they are at the gyms I go to, most of the the stores I walk in...most places I go...I look for them.

I also have to inspect/check them weekly. They are a serious piece of lifesaving technology that works...no doubt.

I won’t deny their value or that an AED may be a lifesaver. But at this point, I cannot shell out $1300 for something like that at this time in my life.

Never used one outside of practice/training though.

The kits you are talking about, we aren't carrying. We may have them in our cars/trucks, but not on our bodies

A TQ slides in your pocket. An AED doesn't

They have a strap. Put it in a satchel.

Or keep it in your vehicle. Still more likely to save a life than your tourniquet. You act like an AED has to be pushed around on a large cart with a generator to run it.

Considering the number of lives that would be saved by AEDs it doesn’t make sense to push tourniquets that will have almost no chance of ever being used. Even at a gun range the AED has better chances. Even if you have to run out to the truck to get it.

Cost more? Sure. About as much as one of the firearms many of us carry.

But it’s fun to show off the tourniquets I guess.

Lots of ways to quickly make an impromptu tourniquet, good luck getting someone to rig up an AED while your arms are giving out doing chest compressions. Maybe you can rip the cord out of a nearby lamp and give them a zap.

I'm going to change my argument. Instead of carrying a tourniquet, some people should get a backpack and some books and see if a nearby school can help with some remedial critical thinking and reading comprehension skills.

If you carry a gun because someone might try to hurt/kill you, why the hell

I'm not EMS. I carry a TQ because it slips in my pocket, and god forbid i need it, i don't want to hope some random crap works just as well, its also far less expensive than an AED, and due to the difference in size, I'll always carry it.

Are you one of the idiots who, when they hear someone carries an extra mag, calls them a mall ninja and tells them they might as well take a rifle?

Lets not forget many places have one or more AED's

A SOF-T TQ is smaller than that phone you are using. Find a better argument

Your far mo w likely to need an AED than a firearm also. Just need it close by. And about the same price as many firearms we keep nearby.

Ever go out to the lake? Anywhere else besides a major city?

You don’t need to be EMS to use an AED. In fact, you don’t really need any training.

Why do you feel that having something that has a far greater chance of being used is stupid? Seems you are more concerned with defending your tourniquet than considering something far more beneficial.

I guess I need to start wearing a life jacket 24/7 since I live 12 miles from a lake. And carry a spare for someone else.

Don’t think that would help someone in cardiac arrest. Maybe if they were in the water but it would be tough to get the life jacket in them.

Makes sense if you’re out on a boat though.

Who’s carrying an epinephrine injector with them? Very small and would also be far more likely to see use than a tourniquet.

Now we are just arguing for the sake of arguing. We all know the reason why we don't go around with AEDs.
Wearing a life jacket 24/7 is about an intelligent remark as yours above. It is important enough to have one in your boat according to the law despite you never needing one.

Some here should take the belt and use it as a TQ around your neck in a circle jerk. It appeared to work on Carradine so I retract all my past comments.

Because they disagree with you about the importance of having a little strap they will have less chance of needing than winning the lottery?

    Kind of harsh, IMO.

I really don’t care who keeps what in their first aid kit.

I was just here for the lulz.
