Imagine wanting to sell a gun that your grandpa gave to you...
I’ve been trying for years to buy one of my grandad’s guns. I’m willing to pay WAY over it’s “worth.”

On a separate note, imagine wanting to sell any gun.

Also, I’ve bought several over the years from guys who inherited them. They want pennies and are gladly willing to do so. Shame on them but I’ll give them a better home.

Here’s a couple of images. Just trying to get the best offer honestly. A fair price.

Do you know what the suffix is for the gun? It should be on the frame under the cylinder crane/yoke. It should be 29-X. That might have an effect on it's value depending on how early it is. It looks like that in general, $700-$900 is the going price for a 29 right now. It being unfired will raise it's value. It's hard to tell, but is there a turn line present on the cylinder? It looks like there's a faint one in your second picture. If so, it might not be unfired. It wasn't uncommon for people to buy one of these and either sell them off or never shoot them again after the first cylinder or two because they didn't know what they were getting. 44 mag is a great cartridge, but can be a handful if you are not used to shooting large magnums. This was especially true shortly after the Dirty Harry movies came out and these guns were snatched up for their association to that, not for hunting as the gun was intended to be for. Factory 44 Mag was sure a hell of a lot hotter back then too. They loaded it nearly it's full potential.

It's a beautiful gun, and if I could afford it right now I'd probably make an offer.

Where on earth did you get a M29 for $425? I paid $800 for my M629 a few years ago.

My Gunny had previously talked about selling it. Then his wife got pregnant again and I bided my time until he asked again. He offered it at $450, I countered at $400 and we settled on $425. That was 2012.

Yep, you basically got the holy grail of deals. Someone on Gunbroker might get lucky with an auction and walk away with one for $600. $425 is unbelievable, even in 2012. Yours is a "no dash" model, the first model. It was made between 1979 and 1981.

Mine's also a 6" It's a great gun with really good balance. Mine's a 629-6. It's pretty neat to see all the little changes they made between yours and mine like the pinned barrel, the cylinder release, and the sights. Also that damned internal lock hole...

I had tried to buy it a year earlier at $500 and he said no. When his wife got pregnant I knew it was going to mine. He did ask me before I asked him though.

SN dates mine to 1981 per S&W.

Hasn't this thread ventured far enough beyond skirting the rules yet?

The OP was given a link to the rules yet here this thread still sits.

Now it moves from an ad to an ad with bidding which is also against the rules.

Sometimes new members disappoint me with their blatant disregard of forum etiquette. What's worse is when members that know better join in.

    You sir, are a thief.
I will absolve you of that guilt you must be living with by offering you $450 and you can give the $25 to your Gunny.;)

    Good steal by the way.

Un knot your knickers. I consider it as determining the value of a handgun, from that he can post a price in the correct place.

From Blue Book in 95% condition
    29-1 $3000
    29-2 "S" SN $1325
    29-2 "N" SN $1000
    29-3 and up model $650

As you can see it would behoove you to closely check the model #. If you actually determine it is unfired the values goes up from 50-75% on average.

If you're not a sentimentalist oil it well and put it away if you don't need the money. It will go up more in value than any saving account you can own.
