There are far more transactions made in this country using a bill of sale then there are without. To suggest that a bill of sale will get you in trouble is just plain silly. Now if you are doing something illegal, leaving a paper trail is a bit silly, but I doubt there is anyone in jail on the charge of "bill of sale".so we have more evidence of a BOS being used against the seller.
Still waiting on how it saved someones bacon its only been 5+ years of waiting but I am not in a hurry
Exactly my point.........it was used as evidence against the cop.....
He could have bought the gun and gave it his uncle as a gift......but he did a straw man purchase under the law....
His BOS to his uncle gave them the evidence they needed to convict....they would have never even known about the glock except for that BOS....
Seems I remember a fairly recent story about a cop who bought a blue label glock for his uncle. Cop lived in NC or somewhere and the Uncle who was a retired cop lived in NJ or thereabouts. The retired cop uncle wanted a good deal on the Glock and his cop nephew took his uncle's money and purchased the blue label glock and gave it to his uncle.......he filled out a BOS to his Uncle..........ATF filed on the cop for a straw man purchase on the basis of the BOS........I'll see if I can find the story later when I have time....we may have discussed it here on TGT....point was....if no BOS.....ATF would have never known or had a case to file....

I wonder how they knew about the BOS?
What even causes them to start investigating?
Of something illegal. Selling a firearm is not illegal in itself, and a bill of sale would not make it illegal. The Bill of Sale is almost always the initial evidence that tips them off and allows them to build case.

Cam the cop was being investigated for something else. The only thing they found when they served the search warrant was the BOS they used to convict him. No other charges were filed on him. So yes he was being investigated for something totally unrelated to the glock sale to his uncle.....not having anything they could get him on, they used that.....
That may be true, but still, suggesting that using a bill of sale in a transaction can only lead to trouble is not true.I don't personally care what two individuals do in a private sale...that's their business, not mine.......If someone wants a DNA swab, and the other party agrees....that's their business......
Of course all of our customers receive a BOS......
But I have observed a private sale BOS has been used more to put someone in a precarious legal/criminal position than helping them.........
Would you like to bet on that?Sometimes selling the firearm is illegal. And having a BOS showing you did it, would not be very helpful. There is just no scenario ever presented, where a BOS helped someone get out of trouble.
