Yep yepRight, own shabby, it's your best bet.
While I agree with your logic, I owned shabby for many moons, no longer.
Is doing so riskier?
Sure, but owning a crap house and belongings isn't something I'll repeat if I don't have too.
I'll take my chances...
Sometimes living in the worst house on the block with the oldest vehicles is you best security. Thieves are going to hit the peeps who they perceive to have the better newer things.
Negro please like I live In a brick house . Mine is a mobile home lol. Steel core was because I had a bad time with my grandbaby father.Agreed. I live in a neighborhood that nobody will target. Because the majority that live here will be the hunters in a bad situation. There's no steel core doors. I doubt most things here are locked because it's not worth taking. It's a lower income area inhabited by some nasty hungry animals.
Safest area around. Now for the brick homes down the road with the bars on the windows. That's a Red flag you have something really neat inside. I'd expect you to get the first visit.
Safe, snug, and dangerous. I enjoy my neighborhood.

All I wanted was the noise factor while sleep.
But I live in the barrio every one here has lived over 40+ yrs. Dead end st. So we watch
Sure you can fortify against an unknown invader but what if they are a known invader? I am not going to live in a crap hole or drive POS vehicles hoping to prove a point.
Just have layers of security, locked gates, dog, cameras, alarm and finally a means of SD. Now if you flaunt your success or run a drug house or run human smuggling, well all bets are off.
We have all those things and live on a cul de sac where neighbors are often home so barring an apocalypse, I think we are fine.

Unless you're on a certain level of interpersonal connectivity with said neighbors....Even then...
Hard times hits you and it hits them at the same time and with the same veracity. One day the guy is borrowing your mower. Society go's to hell and he needs to feed his kids. Cull-de-sack' won't mean a thing.
Your house is a target to certain people. I pray you the best but I don't think anybody outside the house is going to be on your side.
Hard times don't always hit everyone at the same time. I already mentioned all bets were off in the apocalypse. Yes, I do have some interpersonal connectivity with said neighbors. I guess you don't? What a fine neighbor you must be. My house is a target to a lot of people.
It is called risk mitigation. Nothing is a guarantee but you sure as hell can mitigate your risk and living on a cul de sac is a way. Driving a POS and living in a crap house does not mitigate the risk but hey I wish you the best as well.

Sad how soon your prediction occurred. Grranted they were hoaxes but news ran story as attempted assassinations and now 11 dead from an anti-Semitic f'kWe got awhile. Now, political assassinations and bombings are the main concern. You're cool at the house for now.
Exactly.Y’all haven’t seen real political violence. About the closest thing lately is the Saudis offing Khashoggi in their own consulate in Turkey.
When your local elections in May of an odd year have polling places being mortared, that’s political violence.
Keep Calm and RTFU
True, no mortar attacks but we are not exactly problem free. Plenty of violence in Oct.Y’all haven’t seen real political violence. About the closest thing lately is the Saudis offing Khashoggi in their own consulate in Turkey.
