    Hey all-

My sister is sending my nephew up for Christmas and I want to have him help me build his first rifle.

Starting off with a stock Ruger 10/22. I'm ordering a Green Mountain 20" stainless bull barrel, and a Kidd single stage trigger group, and a V-block to support the barrel. Looking at either a TacSol Vantage or a Boyd stock, but willing to hear recommendations for this.

I'm open to any recommendations for other accessories.

Add a VQ or Kidd bolt buffer and Kidd auto bolt release. Install a JWH extended charging handle.

If hes into woodworking. Send the original wood stock along with it. The factory stock is cRaZy fat. There's a lot wood to work with and remove.(get rid of the ugly front band) He can refinish it and or re-shape it. Wood burn it, checker, or stipple. Bed the action, float the barrel....

The wood stock is a really fun part.

A VQ extractor is a nice addition and not too expensive.

There are of course tons of options for stocks. I do like the Hogue Overmolded stocks as mentioned. Functional and with a more traditional look than the more futuristic styles.

Kidd seems to make just about everything for the 10/22 except stocks. Are their barrels any better or worse than Green Mountain? Their barrels are a bit more expensive than GM's.

Power Custom makes an Extended Automatic Bolt Release

It makes the bolt operate like an M1 Garand
    You'll love it

There are so many choices it boggles the mind.

I bought a new rack grade 10-22, and built a new rifle around the receiver.

Found a heavy profile match grade barrel with a Bentz chamber, mounted the barrel and receiver on a laminate stock from Stocky's Stocks, added a quick bolt release, and topped it all off with a Leupold 3x9 scope.

A 10-22 will potentially suck more money out of your rifle build budget than an AR-15.

    Be well.
