Are there any? Getting ready for the upcoming show and I am looking for .223. I bought some reloaded 9mm hp from some guys that where selling them in plastic bags of 50rds for $14.00. Worst stuff I ever shot. The powder was very smokey and smelly. Felt and looked like I was shooting blackpowder. I was teased to no end at the bullet hole(all in good fun, great guys there). Anyway i don't want to make the same mistake again. Can anyone suggest a good source?

at saxet? no....everything is way overpriced and many of the vendors are rude a**holes. Gun shows are fun to browse for unusual items or just to spend time with other gun folks, but the prices suck. Have you looked at ammoman.com? he has decent prices and FREE shipping on everything which is a plus. He only sells by the case, so if you dont want a case find a buddy and split the cost.

Hit Alamo Ammo on NW Military (located in the same store as Alamo Tickets). Talk to Mike, I just bought a spam can of 7.62x54R and you get to save on shipping (which usually kills the online prices). They may not be the absolute cheapest, but I prefer to buy and support local businesses when I can. Plus, I got the wooden crate thrown in for free!

Oh, and they do go to the SAXET shows. They are usually located in the far lefthand back of the center as you walk in, near where the bathrooms are.

But as for 9mm, you know you can get 50 rounds of Federal at Walmart for $9.95! I'd never buy reloads.

    Cheers! M2

Yep, same side, just up the road at the next light...

Like I said, the shop sign is for 'Alamo Tickets;' but it's in the same place.

Gun shows used to be a good place to pick up bulk ammo, but for the past year or two they have been higher than many retail stores. Or else the stuff they are selling is WWI vintage or made in a country that can't afford vowels.

9mm and .45ACP is cheap enough at Academy and Walmart to avoid buying at gun shows or getting reloads.

But I might pick up some hollow points, see if I can get them to drop a few bucks on the price and not pay tax.

I saw a guy selling 115 WWB for $70.00 A few tables down a guy had his at $30.00. Whats funny just a couple miles away you can get Monarch for $10 on sale and WWB 100 for $24 at Academy. Never been to Wally World and never will so I don't know about them.

FYI...Alamo Ammo was selling Monarch .380 for $30 a box at a Live Oak show awhile back. I asked if it came from Academy, and the guy got real defensive and said he doesn't buy from Academy and that all his ammo comes from his "distributor". I pointed out that on the back of the box, next to the UPC code, it said Academy. A few boxes had it blacked out with magic marker. Academy is the ONLY supplier of Monarch ammo. It is made by Privi-Partison in Serbia, and sold to Academy under the Monarch brand name. When they get it, Academy sells the same .380 for $14.99.
Yeah, I know...we live in a capitalistic society. That's all well and good. But Alamo Ammo just lied to my face. I won't buy squat from them because of it.

Buy ammo at Academy and sell it for 100% markup at a gunshow???? What a DB! They just made my list of places to avoid.

Alamo Ammo was selling WWB .380 for close to $80 a box of 100 rds. Then they had a idisclaimer on thier website that said something like the market is shakey and they are providing the best prices they can. Whatever, they were taking advantage of people and I refuse to buy from them. I understand the need for a business to make a profit, but sometimes they go overboard. I will never purchase from them and steer as much business away from them as possible. Just my opinion.

Well, if you can find .3809 cheaper than by all means buy it; but I don't recall seeing it any cheaper than that at the show or anywhere else, so it is a bit unfair to single out one ammo dealer at the show when there are others who are charging considerably more for their ammo.

Academy may have it at a lower price, but good luck ever finding it on the shelves. I have even asked as I am interested in the Taurus PT738, and the guys behind the counter admit that it is very rarely in stock and when it is, it doesn't last long.

The ammo prices I saw at the show were insane... after I left the show I hit up the Walmart at 1604+Potranco. They had 9mm 50 boxes for $9 and .40 S&W 50 boxes for $13 in ABUNDANCE. Federal brand. The Academy across the highway from the Walmart had Winchester and Remmington ammo but oddly not their... Monarch brand stuff. Does anyone actually like that Monarch ammo? I haven't used it, myself. Usually stick to Winchester.

Cheaper than twice ther reail price??? I see it everywhere! I have never bought gun show ammo for exactly that reason....it is cheaper EVERYWHERE else. But the poke in the eye is that they are selling boxes that actually say "Academy" right on the box and they are saying it came from a "distributor".
Academy and Walmart have plenty of ammo these days and for pretty reasonable prices.
Clockwork: I shoot Monarch through my g26 and through my AK-47 (when plinking) and have even shot some through my AR and never had a problem with it.

Now that's just insulting. Do they think that people attending gun shows are illiterate or something?

I'll try out the Monarch ammo next time I need to restock. They always seem to have it and it's always cheaper than the Winchester ammo that I buy. I just worry that buying less expensive ammo will affect my groupings more than I'd like.

It punches paper. It maybe was a little dirty. I think the Box of truth people had a deal on "cheap" ammo. It compared very well compared to WWB, IIRC.

AHH, they don't have monarch, only blazer and wolf compared to WWB

I have never fired the Monarch brand. When I took my CHL class a few weeks back two guys used it. They both experienced what the teacher called a "hard primer." Dont know if thats a real term or not, but the round never fired after the trigger was pulled.
