But certainly there was an officer at the scene who saw the weapon, and knows what it is.

I'm hoping that someone will "accidentally" leak a picture of it.
Ambiguity in how many shooters? what kind of weapon? who is this guy?

....better step up that crushing machine!

Reminds me of Vegas. Soooooo many questions. No answers, no video.

It’s common to have conflicting reports regarding number of shooters/description/etc early on.

I doubt the exact rifle used was a big concern to LE.

I’ve seen numerous posts here and elsewhere that these psychos shouldn’t be made famous, and not posts wanting every detail to be broadcast.

Yet it didn't take them long to come out with his name.

And that he failed NICS, and bought it via a private sale.

Turns out (according to WSJ) that he is a gun dealer.
Looks like hot water for him...
I'm still interested on how they knew where it came from. I just don't believe his phone had "gun dealer" listed. Even if Ator had his number, how do you figure it as the guy that sold him the rifle?

Everything you do on your phone or online is recorded.

Edit to add: It’s also possible the dealer purchased a serialized receiver and the SN was traced. We don’t know much about the dealer at this point so it’s possible he was doing a lot of dumb shit.

I would guess it’s fairly easy to check and see if he had ever been declined by NICS once his name and social security number was know.

Well, if he Was a dealer, as they say, and he didn't run a NICS, then, oops....

.gov tends to know all the players beforehand in these mass shootings. Just a coincidence.

Nah, just a matter of them watching everyone but not having being able to throw everyone in jail.

I'm not sure how one can illegally make a gun in Texas.

It's legal to make one. From scratch, from incomplete receivers, from complete kits. It's legal to sell one. You just can't make them with the intent to sell them.
At least that's my understanding and if I'm wrong, surely somebody will be along shortly to correct me.
