Was out mowing the front lawn this morning and mowed a snake, saw it on my next pass, it was in some tall grass. Not sure what it is, short stubby body, but not very distinctive markings. Any guess as to what it may be?

Didn’t get a better picture of the head, at first when I saw it, thought it may have been a copperhead, but when I turned it over I knew it wasn’t. A Hognose was my other option, just hard to tell from the coloring.

    Wrong color for a copperhead.

I'm pretty sure it's not a hognose. I had a couple of them as pets in HS. A hognose tail is long and slender, even after feeding.
Likely a copperhead. Yeah, I know color. I've seen copperheads with color variations from almost yellow to so dark it was almost black. On occasion, almost no stripes.

Eastern Hognose snakes come in many color/pattern phases. All three of these were caught at my place.
The mowed snake is not a copperhead.
