This happened to my cousin’s son Monday. Just a reminder to be careful working on your projects. They were not able to reattach the thumb and he may still lose his middle finger.

Ugggh, that's awful. As a woodworker, makes me cringe. Things like that happen so fast.

When I worked in a production cabinet shop, we had an old guy who ran the shaper- basically a huge 5 hp router, and he lost a few fingers/tips. I asked him what it felt like and he said it felt hot when they got cut. I guess nerve ending reaction to trauma.

I pray that cuz's kid heals good and is able to keep working the trades.

Happened to my stepdad, working in the garage cut the top of his finger off. Now this man used to build houses for a living. My uncle who lived next door put him in the car and was racing to the hospital. They lived in the country, about a 45 minute drive. As he's racing down the highway a sheriff pulled him over. When the sheriff realized why he was speeding he told my uncle he would escort them to the hospital and would call it in.

My woodshop teacher in high school was missing 2 fingers. I assumed they were lost due to a shop accident but if so, makes me wonder if anyone noticed when he interviewed for the job. Student safety? Sure, I'm experienced with losing fingers and know what students shouldn't do.

If you were doing something wrong, he called you Joe Blow. Multiple people each class were always doing something wrong.

I have feard this many times over the years. It only take a spec of a second to FK up. This is the reason these saws came with balde gaurds that everyone removes. Same goes with circular saws so many wedge a piece of wood under the the guard.
Just not smart but we all know why it's done so be careful.

Darn, at least he didn't lose the knuckle of his thumb so he'll still be able to use that hand. I feel for him though, that's terrible. I got myself with a mini death wheel a few weeks ago, should have gotten a few stitches but used scotch tape instead. It worked nicely believe it or not! Never drop your guard around power tools, they'll get you when you least expect it no matter how many times you've used them.

    So very sorry.

My brother had such and accident when he was in his 30's. And last year a young contractor who worked for me for 3-1/2 months had a similar accident. He was the most incredible roofer, framer, remodel contractor, plumber, and was as agile as a cat. Few months after we finished my job he was working on project, light table saw was on uneven ground, he grabbed to catch fence and cut off his left thumb and 1/2 of index finger. The flew him to hospital in DFW area and with extensive surgery they saved his thumb and left index finger. They work but the feeling is not totally recovered.

Construction is a hazardous work environment.

May God Bless your cousins son and may he recover quickly.

When he went in to the doctor for a follow-up he was going into the restroom, tripped and fell, broke his nose.
