<sarcasm>Now why would anyone want to teach elementary school children what to do if they stumble across a gun? Besides, what could the NRA possibly know about gun safety?</sarcasm>

The article stated, 'The NRA says it teaches this message: "STOP! Don't Touch. Leave the Area. Tell an Adult."'
Apparently the school principals aren't as interested in child safety as much as their liberal agenda.

At any rate, responsible parents teach their own kids about gun safety in the home and don't rely upon the schools. Unfortunately, the kids with irresponsible parents may have to learn on their own that the gun they found is not something to be trifled with. Sadly, that lesson may come at the expense of shooting their best friend in the chest.

<sarcasm>But at least the school principals will be able to sleep well knowing that the NRA didn't set foot on their campus.</sarcasm>

The following info from the article truly shows the principals' selfishness and ignorance: "The principals made a decision they didn't want to participate in an event that folks could perceive as them taking a position one way or another on the gun control debate or any other debate the NRA is involved in."

So if a student at one of those schools gets killed when the find a gun and shoot themselves, do these "educators" have any liability? Probably not, but they should.

Since you're in Houston, you know (unless you're a recent arrival) that the area those schools are in is full of gangbangers, poverty, drugs... basically every societal and criminal hazard you'd expect to find in an bad urban environment. Those kids need a gun safety message more than most because they are more likely to see a gun, and it's more likely that the gun is being used in an irresponsible and/or illegal manner. This is really a shame - those principals have done those kids a big disservice with this decision.
