    22 or 22 magnum.
I have both and would not be without either of them.
I also really like my 32 H&R Magnum. Super accurate, powerful enough for most small to medium sized varmints, and easy to shoot without beating up the shooter.

On the other end of the recoil spectrum, I really like my 30/30 barrel.

    Whats a 6.5mm etc tcu?
Essentially, it's a .223 opened up to 6.5mm. There's a slight shoulder angle change, iirc, but that's basically it.

Personally, I was more fond of the 7x47, which is the .222 Rem. Magnum blown out to 7mm with no other change. Given the availability of quality 6x47 brass back in the day, it was an easy cartridge to make.

When it comes to the TCU family, I find the 6mm most interesting. If you get ahold of older Hodgdon reloading data, the max loads for this non-standardized cartridge showed it produced velocities basically equal to the 6mm BR. I always wondered what the life of that brass would be. :)

Right now, already having the .44 & 7-30, I’d look at a 32Mag or one of the 357s - for the new son or grandson when he’s old enough. Until then, I can test it. Start him out on those bushy tailed tree rats, and rabbits. Loading his own ammo, and maybe casting.

If he likes it, then move on to the 44 & 7-30 for bigger game.

    i always liked those T/Cs.

A 10-inch Contender in .30 Herrett was my first serious hunting T/C. I still have the circa 1979 Guns and Ammo Book of Handgun Hunting in which Bob Milek sang its praises so convincingly, and I set mine up just like his. Never found a deer with it, but it was accurate and great fun as my first wildcat to load for.
